Best big wave surfers from around the world make their way to Lincoln City
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 24 September, 2012 : - - The premier big wave contest in the Pacific Northwest begins its waiting period October 1st and will be called with 72 hours notice when a minimum 30' swell with favorable conditions is forecasted. Surfline is the official forecaster for the NRBWC and will be supplying detailed swell data and forecasting tools for Event Director, John Forse.
Entering its third year as stop #3 on the Big Wave World Tour, the best big wave surfers from around the world will make their way to Lincoln City, Oregon when the green light is given. The 2010 Nelscott Reef contest was held in pristine 40+foot surf in what some call the biggest waves ever paddled into during a contest. Kohl Christensen, a last minute dark horse from Hawaii, came away with the win after a tightly contested final.
In addition to the main event, those surfers who fail to advance through the contest will have one more opportunity to cash in. Battle for the Bomb @ South Reef will be given to the surfer who catches the largest wave on the South Reef throughout the day. The winner will be determined by viewing photo and video segments at the awards banquet following the event and voted on by those in attendance. This year’s contest & special award will have a total prize purse of $10,000 USD.
We are proud to announce our new partner for this season, Sports Guard the makers of Ribguard, who have come aboard to help make this contest a reality. Jack Hozen, owner/founder, will be on site with product info and providing live commentary on the microphone during the event. Ribguard is a padded rash guard that eases pain from sternum and/or rib soreness and facilitates more water time and less pain.
