Fanning has chance to extend his lead ahead of the pack

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 25 September, 2012 : - - The 34 best surfers in the world have packed their bags to head for Europe for the Quiksilver Pro France. The seventh stop of the 2012 ASP World Tour represents a great chance for championship leader Mick Fanning to extend his advantage over the chasing pack.

After six stops on the tour Mick has clocked up 41250 points to lead the championship from his fellow Aussie Joel Parkinson who sits on 39700. There’s also a championship threat from 11-time ASP World Tour winner Kelly Slater who occupies third spot on 35450 points

If Mick Fanning is to take another step towards a third ASP World Tour title while on the beaches of Hossegor and Seignosse he needs to catch the breaks that have been helping him all season. Mick has already recorded victories at Bells Beach and in Tahiti as well as semi-final spots in Rio, Fiji and Trestles.

France is a tour stop that has been kind to Mick in the past and a victory this year would be his fourth at the event. Mick’s 2012 Quiksilver Pro France will kick off with an opening heat against South Africa’s Travis Logie and an up-and-coming trailist.
