Atlantic Surfing Federation hosts Championships at Sebastian Inlet
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 26 September, 2012 : - - The Atlantic Surfing Federation, a full member organization under Surfing America, the National Governing Body for the sport of amateur surfing in the USA, will host their 1st Annual Championship Event in Florida at Sebastian Inlet, October 12th -14th. Invitations for the ASF Championships are based on the top finishers in the Global Points system used by the organization, and the top qualifiers from each of the chapters.
Competition Director, Brian Broom, states, “We are excited to announce that the ASF Championships will be a qualifier for the USA Championships and the Surfing America Prime Series for the 2013 events. Being part of the National Governing Body System is only a plus for our committed upper level athletes. This event, coupled with their Global Points, will determine who gets ASF invitations to the 2013/2014 Surfing America Prime Series, and for non-prime divisions, who will receive invitations through their participation in the ASF to the National Titles of the country, the USA Championships, next summer in California. With that event being the ‘Official’ Championship of the U.S., this is a heavy event for many. 4 man/20 minute heats is a modern system, and we have used this system since our first horn."
"This is going to be a first class event, I can assure you," Broom continued, "Our judges are the best on the east coast, and are fortunate to be working under the guidance of long time ASP experienced Head Judge, Gordon Lawson. We are excited to announce that East Coast Icon, Eric Taylor, who was so much a part of my elite team programs for many years, and a multiple East Coast Champion and top ASP Junior, will be among our expert panel. We hope to announce the formulation of an Elite Athlete Program at this event, and we are extremely optimistic that Eric will be an active participant in the formulation and implementation of this venture. Lots of good things coming next year."
Executive Director, Julie Hume, comments, “Our history is just beginning, and we are all very excited. This championship event is more than just an ‘event’. The 1st Annual ASF Championships commemorates our mission, and what we set out to accomplish; it is a celebration of our athletes that believed in the program we offer and joined the ASF to reap the benefits we promise; it is a tribute to the surfing industry that had faith in our mission and stand beside us with such tremendous support; it is in appreciation for the local businesses up and down the east coast that have given ‘grassroots’ support to their community ASF Chapters; and it is also important to note that this 1st Annual ASF Championship event acknowledges achievement.
The directors of this fine organization ‘had a dream’, and together, they set out to bring the east coast athletes a modern, progressive surfing program with competitive uniformity, something they have wanted for a long time, and they did it.” On October 12, 2012 the ASF will begin a 3 day celebration of the passion, the focus, and the dedication they have for ….One Mission, One set of rules, and One National Program.
Hume continues, “The Atlantic Surfing Federation would like to thank the Sebastian Inlet State Park, and the State of Florida, for welcoming us, and allowing us the opportunity to give our athletes such an awesome venue.” This event clearly makes everyone involved part of the “history” that is just beginning.
Atlantic Surfing Federation Mission Statement: The Atlantic Surfing Federation is committed to promoting and implementing a modern, progressive surfing program for all members and ability levels. The ASF seeks to instill discipline, environmental awareness, positive values of fair play, and good sportsmanship in all its members, while encouraging and guiding their development in the area of competitive surfing.
The Atlantic Surfing Federation, a newly formed, competitive surfing organization on the east coast, originated from a group of enthusiastic, highly skilled, and informed directors, who share a vision. This vision encompasses a modern, progressive surfing program with competitive uniformity. We are pleased to announce that we have Chapters in New York, New Jersey, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Florida.
The ASF is aimed specifically toward surfers on the East Coast, offering top level surfers a track to the Prime Series and U.S.A. Championships while maintaining the fun, family stoke for surfers of all ages and abilities.
The overall objective is to provide these two arenas a platform that is positive, educational, and consistent from chapter to chapter, offering the opportunity to enjoy the sport of surfing, guidance for development, and a distinct and fair path to help TAKE YOUR SURFING TO THE NEXT LEVEL
