Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 29 September, 2012 : - - The opening nine heats of Round 1 of the Quiksilver Pro France were completed on Friday in clean three-to-five waves at La Graviere. Solid barrels were on offer in the morning before competition was called off as the swell subsided.
Mick Fanning current ASP WCT No. 1, dispatched of an in-form Wiggolly Dantas and Travis Logie in their Round 1 match-up. Fanning advances directly to Round 3 of competition. Dane Reynolds wildcard into the Quiksilver Pro France, caused the upset of the day, dispatching of current ASP WCT No. 2 Joel Parkinson and Bede Durbidge in Round 1 of competition.
Taj Burrow kicked off the day’s proceedings with an impressive display of forehand tube-riding in the shifting low tide conditions to best opponents Kai Otton 32, and and advance directly into Round 3.
Kelly Slater reigning 11-time ASP World Champion and current ASP WCT No. 3, reactivated his event-winning equipment from last week at Lower Trestles today to collect an impressive array of barrels and advance directly into Round 3.
While the ASP World Title remained the day’s primary focus, the requalification campaigns of the world’s best are also at a crucial point of the season and some of the lower ASP Top 34 seeds came up with big wins. Jadson Andre and Patrick Gudauskas picked up important Round 1 wins today, hopefully altering the course of their respective 2012 campaigns.
With conditions deteriorating through the early afternoon, event organizers opted to call competition off for the day following Heat 9. When competition resumes, up first will be Jordy Smith, Heitor Alves, and Adam Melling in Heat 10 Round 1 of the Quiksilver Pro France.
