Central KwaZulu Natal bodyboarders amped

Team Updates
Central KZN to feature strong team at SA Bodyboarding Championships this week
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 1 October, 2012 : - - The Central KwaZulu Natal bodyboarding team presented by Thiel Board Co. and Just Bodyboarding will be looking to dominate the upcoming SA Bodyboarding Championships starting today (1 – 6 October) in Margate on the KZN South Coast. Under the guidance of team captain Michael Ostler and experienced riders like Michael van Huestyn (the current South African Bodyboarding Association chairman who has appeared yearly at this event since its inception 26 years ago), Sean Muller, and Wayne du Preez, the teams young up and comers have both the support and competitive edge to bring out their best. The star-studded Central KZN team will be up against defending champions Southern KZN, as well as teams from Western Province, Eastern Province, Northern KwaZulu Natal, Boland and the Southern Cape.
To ensure that the country’s best wave riders get to prove themselves in the best conditions possible, the 5A Rated South African Bodyboarding Championship will be a roaming event, with event organisers making a daily selection from breaks that include Margate, Lucien, Uvongo and St Michael's Beach, all on the lower south coast of KwaZulu Natal. As the final event on the national bodyboarding calendar, the SA Bodyboarding Championships regularly attract a large number of competitors. This year’s 26th annual event is no different, with teams totalling almost 150 riders to travel from all over the country to compete in South Africa’s biggest and most popular bodyboarding competition in.
Although the event features a number of categories, namely: Pro, Junior, Masters, Ladies, Men’s, Drop knee and boys, one of the most coveted titles remains the team event and the accompanying Fishman Trophy. Central KZN has a proud record in this regard, having claimed the Fishman trophy a total of twenty-one times since the events inception twenty-five years ago. After losing out on the team award to Southern KZN at the last two championships, the inexperienced yet highly talented crew from CKZN are fully focused on reclaiming the trophy that they have made their own over the last two and a half decades.
The Central KwaZulu Natal bodyboarding team presented by Thiel Board Co. and Just Bodyboarding team captain Michael Ostler said “this year our team dynamic is an exciting one as we are working extremely well as a unit. We have riders in every division capable of taking the number one position, all the way through from our junior riders through to the grand masters division. With the support of Billy Thiel, whose Thiel Board Co. has sponsored the team with boards and kit, is a huge boost. His support has been unreal, and the entire team is immensely grateful for his backing”.
According to Stuart Bradford, Central KwaZulu Natal Bodyboarding Association chairman, “this is one of the best teams I've ever had the privilege to be a part of, we have an amazing group of talented and enthusiastic individuals who all make an incredible contribution to the team. Every rider has shown massive commitment to the task at hand and the association would like to wish them the best of luck in the upcoming event”.
