Glenn Hall talks about wins in China, South Africa, and about babies

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 15 October, 2012 : - - Glenn Hall is an Australian born surfer whose parents hail from Ireland. He is a regular on the Irish surfing scene and after some nationality soulsearching has decided to raise the flag for Ireland. As such Hall is a fixture on the European and International contest stage. His hard work has paid off and now he looks poised to jump into the pond with the World Tour big boys. European surf site Freaksurf interviewed Glenn Hall in their latest posting. The interview that follows was conducted in English, which is not the interviewer's native tongue.

Glenn Hall, irl, is about to qualify for next year Dream Tour.
I met him to know about his feeling of a dream coming true.

Hey Micro, how is the new daddy ! Having a baby changes man life, but does it changes the surfer way of life ?
Yeah having a baby changes your life in general and as a surfer. But it's all for the good. I think i surf less now but I appreciate each surf more.

Are you travelling the whole year in Familly ?
I like to travel with the family so I don't miss them too much. And don't miss seeing my daughter grow up. But it's too expensive to take them everywhere. So I only take them on the long trips.

You said that your Irish grandad sends you waves during the heat when it's close and you need to win, tell me about this tale !
Yeah my grandad is a funny old dude. He Irish so I suppose he has the Irish humor. Whenever I'm going away to a comp he says ' I will send you a wave, and he waves his hand. ' so when i need a wave I ask for the wave.

Grandad is generous this year ! What an amazing year !
yeah grandad wasn't joking I suppose. He's been sending me some good waves. Haha. It's been a good fun year that's for sure. But it's not over yet. I want to finish the year strong too.

Tell me about Price Balito Pro, what make the difference ?
the ballito event was really fun. I was staying with good friends Wilko and mushy and I just felt good. The waves were fun on the last day and I had a routine that I just went through each heat. And it seemed to work.

How is it to win his maiden Prime event ?
it was really cool to finially win a big event. You go tk every big event thinking 'can this please be the one I win. ' then when you win one you crack the code and want to win everything. So winning the prime was a big breakthrough for me.

Then you win the Pro China whereas you were invited by the asp, tell me about about this story !
China was such a fun trip. Perfect waves in a new location. Going anywhere new is always fun, but when you score perfect waves it makes it even more memorable. Then to win the event was the icing on the cake.

You win confidence when come the Pro Tresles, where you were desvastating crushing top guys like Flores and John Florence !
yes I gained a lot of confidence at trestles. It's a place where all the top guys are there and everyone is watching. So there is added pressure to perform. Then with perfect waves you can get over excited. So to get a good result and beat some big names a huge for my confidence.

How do you feel after defeating some of those guy ? You prove everyone you're ready for the Dream Tour !
Beating big names is great but only if you beat them the right way. If you just hit lucky cos they had a shocker you have to be honest with yourself and not get too excited. But if you beat then by surfing good and smart then you should take some great confidence out of it.

During the Lacanau Pro you  ve been impressive with hard conditions, tell me about this event promoted by your sponsor ?
surfing I. Lacanau is so fun. My sponsor sooruz put on the event and they are such good fun people and run a really good event. I really enjoy my time there every year. So thanks to sooruz.

Did you make a special training ?
I have been training hard in between event but not so much during the events. I'm looking forward to training hard for Hawaii.

Do you have a coach ?
no I don't have a coach but I do a lot of coaching myself. I coach a lot of good juniors as well as work with ace Buchan and Wilko. I think the more I coach the more I learn. So coaching has worked great for my surfing.

What do you need to improve to be on top until the qualification ?
I just want to keep learning and improving in all areas. I would like to get stronger for the bigger waves and improve on airs.

You're no sitting at the 17 th rank, any pressure for the up coming event and obviously a qualification ?
No no pressure. I'm just enjoying it all

Last word ?
Thanks a lot
