Jimmy Miller Memorial Surf Festival

The eighth annual 'Jimmy' raises $25,000

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 21 October, 2012 : - - The Jimmy Miller Memorial Foundation held its eighth annual Jimmy Miller Memorial Surf Festival, otherwise known at “The Jimmy,” Oct. 14 at 42nd Street in Manhattan Beach. More than 200 surfers of all ages and abilities enjoyed the challenging low-tide surf to raise more than $25,000 for the Jimmy Miller Memorial Foundation.

The Jimmy Miller Memorial Foundation is a one-of-a-kind program that combines surfing and group therapy to heal abused and at-risk children from local centers in Southern California. In addition, JMMF provides ocean therapy to the wounded, injured and ill Marines based at the Wounded Warriors Battalion West in Camp Pendleton, CA and returning veterans from the West Los Angeles Veterans Hospital.

The Foundation was created to honor Jimmy Miller, a Los Angeles County Lifeguard, waterman, writer and world traveler who started Camp Surf, the "official surf camp of Manhattan Beach."  Jimmy taught hundreds of people around the world the joys of surfing and love of the ocean. Ten wounded warriors from Camp Pendleton participated in the event.

JS Surfboards supplied 30 demonstration boards, and food was donated by Fresh Brothers, Grow, Manhattan Breach and Bagel and Silvio’s BBQ. An after-party awards dinner was held at Verandas.

The winning team was Kelly Zaun, Brent Broza, Chio Baldocchi, Hudson Fredriksz, Chandler Cote, and Max Cajuste. The second place team was Matt Walls, Kalani Rusher, Jack Siever, Julian Kuhr, Jim Miller, Shea Walls and Kieran Walls
