2013 Ocean & Earth event renamed & revamped

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 22 October, 2012 : - - Sydney - The renamed and revamped “Teenage Rampage Oz Invitational” will see Australia’s most elite surfers aged under-20, under-16 and under-13 surf at Maroubra beach from January 18-20, 2013 ending the summer school holidays.

An under-20s male division has been added to the Teenage Rampage Oz Invitational with $1000 prize money for first place.

Surfing NSW Events Manager, Luke Madden said: “We feel opening an under-20s division of the event will provide the perfect opportunity for the younger divisions to see just how well the older junior surfers are performing. The trials system creates a prestigious vibe to the overall winners, as the field will be one of the most elite in Australian Junior Surfing”.

Surfers who aren’t invited have the opportunity to qualify for the main event through trials that will take place on both the 18th and 19th of January. The format of the trials will run as follows:

• Under-20 male trials = Round of 24 with the top eight surfers progressing to the main round.

• Under-16 male trials = Round of 24 with the top eight surfers progressing to the main round.

• Under-16 female trials = Round of 16 with the top four surfers progressing to the main round.

• Under-13 male trials = Round of 16 with the top four surfers progressing to the main round.

• Under-13 female trials = Round of 8 with the top two surfers progressing to the main round.

The first surfers to register will gain positions. Any surfer who does not receive an invitation can enter online www.surfingnsw.com.au through the trials.

All invitations for the main round of the Teenage Rampage OZ Invitational will be sent via email direct today by 5:00pm. Entries will open this Wednesday the 24th of October 2012 at 5:00pm for all competitors in the trials as well as those invited into the main round. All will need to check out www.surfingnsw.com.au to enter.

Selections are made based on results Australian Junior Titles 2011 as well as respective state titles for 2012.

Since 2007, more than 2500 kids have participated in the O&E Teenage Rampage around Australia. 2013 will be the first year the former grassroots junior’s series will be compressed and fine-tuned into an elite invitational event.

Ocean & Earth were behind the Teenage Rampage Series since it was created. Support Ocean & Earth who have been world leaders in quality surf hardware for over 30 years. Ocean & Earth will have the best leg ropes and grips for prizes throughout the event.

As part of their Carve eyewear’s corporate sponsorship with Surfing NSW, they will join the event as a supporting partner. Fifty pairs of polarised Carve sunglasses will be given away to various participants as well as the daily winner of the Carve Of The Day.

Again in 2013 Wombat's Happy Hour of craziness will be running throughout the three days with a bunch of giveaways, prizes and crazy fun for all competitors.
