WOO is EuroSIMA Innovation Projects winner
WOO awarded EuroSIMA Innovation Projects 2012 winner | francais
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 22 October, 2012 : - - For the past 4 years, the EuroSIMA Cluster, gathering the European Boardsports Industry Manufacturers, has organized a Call for Innovation Projects with the objective of supporting, encouraging and adding value to innovative projects in the boardsports industry.
A jury of professionals, experts and partners for the Call for Projects (see jury details below) met at the end of September to study the applications and to designate the winner.
The Call for Innovation Projects 2012 has awarded the winning place to the French company WOO (Waina Outrigger Organisation) for its efforts in research and development in the conception of outriggers, and its collaboration with various local key actors in innovation (Estia, Sport Contrôle, etc…).
Indeed, WOO has been working since 2009 to improve continuously the performances of outriggers. Their research is organized around three main axes:
- The design of outriggers that they adapted to wave conditions encountered in the Atlantic ocean and Mediterranean sea in order to limit water pressure and gain speed.
- Optimization of the manufacturing process and the reduction of production time. WOO has developed a range of outrigger canoes made of carbon fiber and epoxy resin whose weight does not exceed 10kg. These canoes are easier to transport and more responsive in the waves. WOO also uses the technique of infusion to make some of their canoes. This technique which is rarely used in the manufacture of canoes can greatly reduce VOC emissions and waste (it is part of the
Best Available Techniques according to the French Environmental Protection and Energy Management Agency, ADEME).
- Ergonomic seating for comfort. WOO will receive a 5,000 € prize and its creators will be put in contact with the actors in innovation and in the French and European boardsports industry.
