The Stand Up World Tour will return to Maresias, Brazil
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 25 October, 2012 : - - After a long summer break, tension is once again mounting as the Stand Up World Tour will return to the beautiful beach town of Maresias in Brazil for Stop 4 from the 28th November to the 5th December.
Brazil has become a fixture on the Stand Up World Tour since our first event there in 2010. We have also seen an impressive stream of Brazilian talent joining the Tour, with 2x Brazi eventl winner, Leco Salazar headlining, joined by the young hotshots Caio and Ian Vaz, but also Maresias local Carlos Bahia and Renato Wanderley to mention just a few.
Sean Poynter will be looking to consolidate on his lead
Sean Poynter (Starboard) is coming into Stop 4 of the 2012 Stand Up World Tour in the lead, after a win at Stop 3 in Tahiti and a strong finish at the World Tour Opener at Sunset Beach in February.
Sean's powerful backhand attack has proved ruthless over the past year, as he has come into his own on the Stand Up World Tour, posting the best results of his career inclusive of his first win. He will be one to watch out for next month in Brazil.
Kai Lenny will be looking to get back on top in Brazil
While Kai Lenny (Naish) has not added a win in Brazil to his list of achievements, he did secure the World Title in Maresias last year, an event before the Final and is hungry to get back on top in the overall standings.
With a great start to the year finishing in a close 2nd place at Sunset, Kai stumbled early in France and Tahiti with 9th place finishes in both, allowing the American Sean Poynter to take the lead, and pushing him back into 2nd place.
Fresh of winning the Racing World Title, Kai will be turning his attention back to surfing as he will be looking for the win here in Brazil, but also towards adding another World Title to his name.
Robin Johnston maintains his consistence performance
Coming off a 4th place in the last event in Tahiti, Robin Johnston (Mistral) will be looking to add another final to his 2012 finishes and maintain his reputation as one of the most consistent athletes on Tour.
Currently lying in 3rd overall, Robin is still very much in contention and will be looking for a strong finish here in Brazil to end the year well. After a summer working on boards and training, Robin is looking to do some damage...
Local Hero Leco Salazar will be looking to make it three
With a flawless record at home in Brazil, Leco Salazar will be looking for another win in front of his home crowd to make it 3 out of 3 in Brazil. He will also be looking for a strong result here to back up his 2nd place in France that would put him right back into the Title Race.
One thing is for sure, this dynamic goofy footer is a performer, and nowhere better than at home, so watch out as Leco turns it up a notch for this year's Maresias Pro.
Young Phenom Caio Vaz determined to get back into Race
After a phenomenal start to the year at Sunset and in France, the young 19 year old talent out of Rio will be looking to step it up at home in Brazil and stake his claim to not only the event at home, but also in the Race for the 2012 World Title.
The Top 5 are all within striking distance of each other as they battle it out for the top spot at this crucial event in the Stand Up World Tour season.
Brazilian National Champion to make his presence felt
The newly crowned Brazilian National Champion Renato Wanderley will be looking to make his mark at the Maresias Pro next month. Fresh off his national title win at the Mormaii Ibiraquera Wave Contest, Renato will be looking to repeat his finals finish from 2011 in Maresias with another great performance that will further strengthen his 2012 campaign.
Watch out for this talented goofy footer as he prepares to take down some giants at the 2012 Maresias Pro Brazil.
Aussies to step up with a strong team of athletes for Brazil
Between Sapinus Pro Finalist and 3rd place finisher, Justin Holland (Starboard), Big Wave Dave Muir (Starboard) and Beau Nixon (Naish), the Aussies are well represented here in Brazil for this crucial stop on the 2012 season.
Expect big things from this qualified crew from down under - they are bound to bring in some surprises in Maresias.
Watch out for wildman Zane Schweitzer: always a threat
After a tough year battling sickness, Zane Schweitzer (Starboard) is back on track, healthy and ready to take on the world at Stop 4 of the 2012 Stand Up World Tour. Known for his unpredictable and radical riding style, Zane will be sure to cause a stir and will be looking for a strong tail end to his 2012 season.
Also to watch out for is another young talent from Maui, Kody Kerbox (Naish), who after his Rookie of the year Title in 2011 will be looking to strengthen his presence on Tour.
Young guns from France and Oahu to assert their presence
The two youngsters Benoit Carpentier (Naish) from France and Mo Freitas from Oahu, Hawaii will be looking to show the older generation how it is done and have made a real statement so far in 2012. With a semi final finish far from home at Sunset, Benoit made a huge statement this year. Meanwhile a few months later on the other side of the world, it was the Oahu phenom Mo Freitas who reached the semi finals in Benoit's backyard at la Torche.
Both these young talents surf way beyond their years and will be looking to cause some upsets at the next stop in Brazil. What's more, Benoit is currently lying in 6th place overall - a phenomenal achievement for someone so young.
