Anderson excited by the Dominelli Surf Classic

Dominelli Women's Surf Classic
PHILIPPA ANDERSON, EXCITED TO BE COMPETING IN THE DOMINELLI WOMEN'S SURF CLASSIC
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 26 October, 2012 : - - Sydney - On the eve of the Dominelli Women's Surf Classic at North Cronulla, Surfing NSW speaks to Open Shortboard top seed Philippa Anderson about what she's expecting from the event. The Dominelli Women's Surf Classic is a two-day celebration of women in sport which will be taking place at North Cronulla Beach on the 27th and 28th of October. It is set to include all facets of female surfing including: shortboard, longboard and stand up paddle-board.
Having just returned from a big leg on the World Qualifying Series and the World Junior Championships, how do you feel going into the Dominelli Women’s Surf Classic as top seed?
Philippa: Yeah, the last few contents have been really good, so I’m feeling great. I was working with Jeremy Shepard and Martin Dunn (acclaimed surfing coaches) in Bali and they were pretty happy with my surfing and where it was at. It’s a big honour for them to say that. I had a few contents in Bali and have been hanging there freesurfing, so it’ll be good to get back into the content vest and prepare to start all over again next year.
Do you feel like you’re surfing the best you’ve ever surfed?
Definitely more so since getting a semi final finish in six-star WQS in Portugal [SATA Airlines Azores Pro, September 27-30, 2012]. It’s my best result ever in a six-star event, so going into Bali I felt really good and finished in the semi-finals in the World Juniors. I guess it's good going into any event feeling 100 percent. I’m feeling fit and healthy, so hopefully the waves will cooperate.
For an event like the Dominelli Women’s Classic at Cronulla, will you be employing the same heat tactics as you would use in a WQS event or will be taking it a bit easier?
No, I’ll be the same. I was just looking at the schedule for the event and there’s a lot of good Australian WQS surfers in the event. There’s never an easy heat in any contest you go in.
What would it mean for you to win this event on the weekend?
It would be really good. Every contest I go in, I’d like to win. I’d love to see my name on the winner’s board. There looks like there are a whole lot of divisions in the event too which will make it interesting to watch.
Looking at the schedule, who would you say your closest rival is?
I don’t know. All the girls surf incredibly well and we all want that trophy, so it’s definitely not going to be easy.
Are you looking forward to the festival atmosphere of the event?
Definitely. I always love events where there’s a whole lot of other things happening. I love the vibe of events where there’s a bunch of different things to see and do and not just surfing. I’m sure there’ll be a bunch of stalls and things going on, so I’m looking forward to it.
