SurfAid launches 'Get On Board' Mentawai surf trip fundraiser

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 5 November, 2012 : - - San Diego based, SurfAid USA announces the launch of its second annual fundraising contest, the Get On Board campaign.  The campaign will send a surfer on a 10-day boat trip with Quiksilver to the fabled Mentawai Islands and includes a tour of SurfAid’s humanitarian programs.

The fundraiser begins on November 1, 2012 and ends January 11, 2013.  All monies raised will directly support SurfAid’s humanitarian efforts in the Mentawai Islands, off Sumatra, Indonesia. At the conclusion of the campaign, the top fundraiser will join Quiksilver professional surfers on a chartered surf trip where they will spend 10 days exploring and surfing the famous Mentawai waves. 

The Get On Board campaign is sponsored by the Quiksilver Foundation, San Diego State University’s Center for Surf Research, Quiksilver Travel, and the Melaleuca charter boat. Joining the trip are sustainable surf tourism experts from SDSU Center for Surf Research, along with reps from Quiksilver Travel and the Quiksilver Foundation.  Additionally, the winner will get a firsthand look at SurfAid’s work on the islands.

“Following the enormous success of the inaugural campaign and the amazing surf storiesthat came from the trip earlier this year, we are stoked to do it again andgive someone a trip of a lifetime,” SurfAid USA Executive Director, Randal Schober, said. “For SurfAid, it allows us to show firsthand the importance of our mission and the challenges the communities of the Mentawai Islands face. This is truly an amazing trip.”
