Surfers Rescue 24/7 program kicks off in New South Wales

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 8 November, 2012 : - - Surfing NSW’s nationally accredited CPR and Board Rescue course, Surfers Rescue 24/7 debuted for the first time at Maroubra on Saturday. Over 20 surfers from Maroubra’s Southend Boardriders made their way to the Surfing NSW offices on the weekend to receive their accreditation for Surfers Rescue 24/7.

All surfers who participated in the course were educated on the best techniques to save a patient, including the correct use of boards and floatation devices and proper CPR procedures.

Surfing NSW CEO Mark Windon said: “We couldn’t be happier with the debut of Surfers Rescue 24/7. I think all surfers who participated in the course learnt some vital lessons and survival techniques if they’re ever faced with a situation where they need to save another life. We can’t wait to roll it out over the forthcoming months.”

On board to help teach the course were former World Tour surfers, Darren O’Rafferty and Drew Courtney. Both surfers will be conducting the course over the next year up and down the NSW east coast. All surfers who participated in the course received a certificate stating they’re a now properly accredited. Recognising the enormous contribution that recreational surfers make to water safety on a daily basis in NSW is a great message to send to our group and it’s importance in protecting the larger community.
