International field hits Kiama for the first day of Round Three of Australian Kneeboard Titles

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 10 November, 2012 : - - A packed field of both local and international kneeboarders attacked windy lefthand wedges at Kiama today for the third round of the Australian Kneeboard titles. Kneeboarders from as young as four, and as old as 64, had no trouble adapting to the challenging conditions the rolled into Kiama’s Surf Beach throughout the course of the day.

Kicking off the morning, were the Open men who adapted to the tricky waves with a combination of power and flow. Locals proved to be the early standouts in round one with Mark Mcleod, Chayne Simpson, Simon Farrer and Albert Munoz all taking wins in the first round heats.

Albert – current World Champion – smashed apart wave after wave to claim victory in his first round, successfully disposing of Jim Brown, Lucas Castellanos and Paul Wright.
Simon Farrer also showed why he’s a former World Champion, performing an eclectic mix of powerful maneuvers with quick and seamless transitions. The Shellharbour kneeboarder, successfully progressed straight into round two where he also claimed another win.

Avoca kneeboarder Kyle Bryant took the highest heat score of the day locking in a heat total of 15.27 in round two. Kyle performed a chain of high-speed carves to notch up the achievement. For his efforts, Kyle won the “Carve Of The Day” award and a pair of Carve polarized eyewear.

In town for the event is the Venezuelan team who participated over a range of different divisions and age groups. The event is also made up of kneeboard participants from Ireland and Puerto Rico. Domestically, entrants came from as far away as the Northern Territory, Victoria, Queensland and the ACT.

Divisions include for the Australian Kneeboard Titles include:
- Open Men - all competitors except Micro Grom
- Amateur A - those who are knocked out from round 3
- Amateur B - those who are knocked out from round 2
- Open Women's - all ages
- Cadet - Under 16 - must be under 16 years at 31/12/12
- Micro Grom - Under 10 - must be under 10 years at 31/12/12
$2000.00 prize money will be up for grabs in the Open men's division.

Depending on conditions, the event can be run at Werri Beach, Jones Beach or Bombo Beach. The competition starts 8am each day with the presentation on Sunday afternoon.
