Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 10 November, 2012 : - - Taj Burrow took out the O'Neill Coldwater Classic at Steamer Lane over Matt Wilinson on 'Election Tuesday'. He built momentum throughout the opening rounds, punctuating his efforts on the final day with a variety of 'winning' forehand maneuvers. This marked Burrow's second win of the season.
Attaining his first ASP WCT Final appearance Wilkinson was lethal on his backhand . Wilko needed a result entering the event in order to secure his place on the WCT in 2013. Michel Bourez secured his best result of the year besting Jeremy Flores advancing to the Semifinals but was unable to stop Wilkinson and finished equal 3rd overall.
Travis Logie was deadly besting Joel Parkinson in the Quarterfinals and securing his best result of 2012. Logie’s tear continued into the Semifinals but he was unable to find a backup score against Burrow, finishing just shy of the Final. Logie shot up the rankings compliments of his 3rd place finish, revitalizing his re-qualifying campaign.
Kelly Slater struggled to find a rhythm in Round 4 against Adriano de Souza, finishing equal 9th overall. Despite his early exit, a 9th place finish exponentially narrows the ratings’ gap with current frontrunner Parkinson.
