Vans Triple Crown of Surfing waiting period opens

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 12 November, 2012 : - - Honolulu - The Vans Triple Crown of Surfing officially starts this Monday, November 12. The first jewel of the Vans Triple Crown is the Reef Hawaiian Pro, held at Haleiwa Ali'i Beach Park on the four best days of surf during the period of November 12-24.

Surfline, official forecaster for the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing, advise the first few days of the waiting period (12th-14th) will be minimal/flat. However, a new storm has recently developed in the Northwest Pacific and will deliver a decent size shot of NW swell for the North Shore late Thursday/Friday (15th-16th). Meanwhile, steady ENE Trades will prevail during that time, becoming rather breezy each day.

"Haleiwa is a high performance wave regardless of its size and it's the perfect stage for launching our 2012 Hawaiian Air Show that will showcase all of the technical and progressive aerial maneuvers of leading athletes like John Florence (Hawaii), Dane Reynolds (California), Gabriel Medina (Brazil), Josh Kerr (Australia), and last year's Air Show winner Nat Young (California)," said event organiser Randy Rarick.

The Hawaiian Air Show offers 250,000 Hawaiian Airlines Miles to the surfer who executes the most progressive aerial maneuver during the 6 weeks of the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing.

This winter celebrates the 30th anniversary of the Vans Triple Crown with a record prize purse, and a $100,000 bonus to the series champion. In addition to individual event and overall series champions, the final event of the Series - the Pipe Masters, will determine the 2012 ASP World Champion.

As part of the Reef Hawaiian Pro, Reef will partner up with "Waste to Waves" for a Foam Drive during the event. They will also present the Reef "Clash of the Legends" featuring Tom Curren, Mark Occhilupo, Sunny Garcia, and Kaipo Jaquias.

Surfline Forecast Sunday 11 November 2012:  The first few days of the waiting period (12th-14th) will be minimal/flat. However, a new storm has recently developed in the Northwest Pacific and will deliver a decent size shot of NW swell for the North Shore late Thursday/Friday (15th-16th). Meanwhile, steady ENE Trades will prevail during that time, becoming rather breezy each day.

NOTE – The below surf sizes are focused on Haleiwa. Other spots of the North Shore that focus these swells best will produce larger waves (up to 25-50% bigger).

MONDAY 12th
SWELL/SURF: Old/fading NW swell leftovers. Strongest early with small surf around waist high or less.
WIND/WEATHER: ENE Trades rise up for the day to around 10-13kts+, lighter early. Partly cloudy/sunny skies.

TUESDAY 13th
SWELL/SURF: Flat.
WIND/WEATHER: ENE-NE Trades rise up for the day to around 12-16kts+, lighter early. Partly cloudy/sunny skies.

WEDNESDAY 14th
SWELL/SURF: Flat.
WIND/WEATHER: ENE-NE Trades rise up for the day to around 12-16kts+, lighter early. Partly cloudy/sunny skies.

THURSDAY 15th
SWELL/SURF: Slow/small early with inconsistent forerunners of the new NW swell showing around knee-waist high. Expect the NW swell and surf to gradually increase through the day. Sets reach head high in the afternoon, then up to a couple feet overhead before dark (5-7' faces).
WIND/WEATHER: ENE Trades rise up for the day to around 12-16kts+, lighter early. Partly cloudy/sunny skies.

FRIDAY 16th
SWELL/SURF: NW swell peaks early and holds solid through the morning hours, offering plenty of overhead sets at Haleiwa (6-8'+ faces). Occasional sets hitting double overhead (10' faces). This swell will start to ease a little over the afternoon and night.
WIND/WEATHER: ENE Trades rise up for the day to around 12-16kts+, lighter early. Partly cloudy/sunny skies.

SWELL/WEATHER SUMMARY
Our main focus has been a developing frontal storm over the Northwest Pacific, which has been unfolding nicely recently to send us a decent shot of NW swell for the Haleiwa event. This swell will steadily build in over Thursday; initially with mid-period WNW energy (300-315 deg) in the early morning, but then quickly shifting more from the NW (310-335 deg) through the day and with longer period bands pushing in. Surf will start out small on Thursday, but expect a steady increase through the day, offering overhead sets before dark.

Friday will offer the best of this swell, especially through the morning, with plenty of overhead sets moving into Haleiwa. The bigger sets reach up to double overhead on occasion. The swell will then start to ease some over the afternoon and through the night. By Saturday morning, surf drops to about half the size, but still contestable with sets around chest-head high or so. Although, that will only slowly decline through the day. Swell fades to waist high or less by Sunday morning.

Further out; long-range charts indicate another NW Pacific storm development around the 14th-15th, but that is looking fairly weak at this time. Stay tuned.

Wind/Weather
The Aloha State will remain under the influence of high pressure through the next several days. As a result; look for steady ENE Trades to rise up each day and become rather breezy, but still fairly light in the early mornings. Also, expect partly cloudy/sunny skies to prevail.
