Layne Beachley floats plan to host surfing tour finale in Australia
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 19 November, 2012 : - - Layne Beachley won all seven of her world titles in foreign lands, but now she has unveiled a plan to give an Australian the chance to win the 2013 crown in home waters for the first time in almost two decades.
Beachley has revealed she wants her annual event moved to the end of the year in the hope it will become the World Tour decider for 2013.
"It would be great for surfing here to be able to crown the world champion in Australia," Beachley said. "It would be special for an Australian to win here."
The last time the women's tour concluded in Australia was 1994. Since then the women's race has traditionally finished in Hawaii with Beachley winning six of her world crowns there and one in France. Beachley is looking for a major sponsor to get behind her tournament, which she would ideally like to run in August.
