Save The Waves Film Festival Goes Off
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 20 November, 2012 : - - On Friday night, November 16 in San Francisco, Save The Waves Film Festival 2012 held its grand finale of live music and film screenings at the historic Victoria Theatre. After a wonderful tour of Santa Barbara and Santa Cruz in early November, Save The Waves Film Festival closed its 2012 tour with a triumphant return to its roots at the Victoria Theatre, back where the film festival was born in 2009.
Opening the night were local San Francisco indie youth rockers Solwave with a boisterous set of electronic dance rock for the elated crowd of moviegoers. The MCs then led the overflow crowd of over 500 people in a stoke-crazed group hoot that only wave riders can appreciate. Finally, the film festival screened a number of world premieres, includingGroundswell, Ode to California, Yukon Kings, Upcycling, How to Body Surf, and a meticulously curated program of 10 new short films about surfing, humanitarianism, ocean adventures, and the environment.
Save The Waves Film Festival at the Arlington Theatre in Santa Barbara (November 2, 2012) featured live performances by The White Buffalo, Tom Curren and Todd Hannigan. Save The Waves Film Festival at the Rio Theatre in Santa Cruz (November 9, 2012) featured live performances by Arann Harris and the Farm Band.
Save The Waves Film Festival is a nonprofit fundraiser for Save The Waves Coalition and World Surfing Reserves. Over $45K was raised for its environmental programs and over 2,000 guests were served with inspiring films, live music and fun.
