Queensland Win Overall Honours At The Soundwave Australian Junior Surfing Titles in Tasmania
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 8 December, 2012 : - - The Soundwave Australian Junior Surfing Titles were completed today in good clean 1m (3 feet) surf at Roaring Beach in Tasmania.
Across all the divisions and age groups, Queensland proved to be the strongest state and can claim bragging rights as Australia's best state for producing great junior surfers and potential future world champions which might align with two of their favourite sons in Joel Parkinson and Mick Fanning chasing the Men's World Title in Hawaii in the coming week!
The new division created this year, under 14 Boy and Girls, saw epic performances from Kael Walsh (WA Margaret River) and Kobie Enright (NSW/Tweed Heads) who both scored outstanding 9 point rides in their finals to take the titles. Walsh, just 13 year of age, won in style by amassing the events highest heat tally of 18.65 made up of two outstanding wave scores of a 9.65 and a 9. From the same hometown as Taj Burrow it's not surprizing that Taj is also his favourite surfer.
"I can't believe I've won, when I heard the 9 point scores I was excited and figured I was leading and to win the first one is amazing - I want to be like Taj Burrow, he's my favourite surfer and I watch him surf at home all the time"
Kobie Enright (Tweed Heads) found her 9 point ride with seconds remaining in her final to go from 3rd to first. "I knew I needed a good score and when I caught that final ride it just felt right - it peeled all the way and allowed for heaps of great turns and I won - I can't believe it!"
