Surf-specific rental market expands as Surfbreak Rentals turns one

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 11 December, 2012 : - - Surfbreak Rentals celebrated its first year in business last week by treating its hometown of San Francisco to a blowout event complete with underground surf contest by morning, invite poker tournament by day, and fashion show party by night. Sanfranpsycho was also involved making sure it all went smooth.

Santa Cruz standout Jesse Columbo won the word-of-mouth surf bout in small but rippable Ocean Beach conditions. With an 11th place finish in the poker tournament, he finished in the top slot for the day and won a trip to Nicaragua with the Surfbreak Rentals crew.

When asked about the unusual surf/poker combo format he said: "It actually makes a lot of sense since so many surfers play cards. And its super fun because you get a chance to sit around a table with the same crew you just surfed against and talk sh*t, make up for blown heats, and share a few laughs."

Local ripper Marty Magnussen said, "Poker and Surfing in the same event? That's a dream come true!"

Maverick's hellman, Grant" Twiggy" Baker showed up and notched a respectable 6th place poker finish. Twiggy played tight, held his own and dished out solid lashings on the other players after he would take a pot. All he had to say the next day was, "sickest party ever bru!"

The poker was just wrapping up as about a thousand of San Francisco's finest surfers, techies, and party-goers started packing themselves into Public Works for the beach fashion show and DJ sets. Bikini clad models whisked up and down the runway to the tunes of DJ's Chris Clouse and Ryan Lucero.

San Franpsycho, Quiksilver, Roxy, RVCA, Vela Bianca Swimwear, and Proof Lab Surf Shop sponsored the event held at Public Works, one of the city's top nightclubs.
