Boardcovers provide the surf market with some much-needed craftiness

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 18 December, 2012 : - - While the low-cost benefits of mass produced surf goods helps some surf companies turn a profit, one group out there is finding that the opposite approach can be true. Meet Seven. T, a brand specializing in surfboard covers who are discovering that consumers value the creativity and custom-look of handmade goods. In a very competitive market, Seven. T is enjoying rapid growth.

How did your company start?

Whilst traveling the world we discovered our board covers were quite a success, people liked that we hand pick the material we use, and that we actually make them ourselves in our own special way! People also like that the cover’s are well made, durable and resistant.

Can you describe the ethos of the company?

We sure can, it’s 100% sweatshop free! Most product’s in the surf world, if not the world come from large scale companies whose production usually exploits people in lesser fortunate countries. At Seven.t we produce our Board covers at our own office, we also hire local people supporting the community. In this time of economic difficulty this has proved invaluable.

Why should we buy your products?

Our products offer the buyer a chance to get something different on their board, mainly a product not made in a sweatshop! We also offer custom design Board cover’s giving people creative control! All our board covers are high quality stretch fabric, fin cut resistant, contoured shape, triple cross stitch nose reinforcement, drawstring closure & goretex wax pocket.  Great
for protecting your surfboard from the harmful UV rays and dirt. These board covers can  also be used inside a travel bag to protect your other valuables, Great if you're traveling!

Are your products sustainably sourced?

We strive to use sustainable sources wherever we can although it can be hard finding products that are 100% sustainable.

What state do you think the UK surf industry is in?

Growing! Despite the cold bite of our sea’s I think people are realising that with a wetsuit you can get in there and catch some pretty nice waves up in our little corner of the world!

What are your current distribution channels?

We currently distribute our rproduct through our website 7tsurfskate.co.uk and are currently in talks with some international distributer’s to extend seven.t’s reach around the world!

How do you see your business growing over the next few months?

We hope to build on what we have and get some more staff under the Seven.T umbrella to start to push internationally whilst remaining true to our ethos!

Who inspires you?

The love to work and produce something that I have enjoyed for most of my life, waves and the sea!  In that sense you could say Poseidon inspires me! To inspire other people to push the surf industry away from mass produced products, to products more akin to the personality of surfing would be great too!

What do you like and dislike about working within the surf industry?

As previously said it’s great just to work in the area that we love! People in the industry are usually like minded which makes for a great working environment. The only problem is that we don't have enough time to catch a wave or two!

Where can we buy your stuff?
