10th Annual Kneeboard Surfing Titles to be Held at Huntington Beach Pier

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 2 January, 2013 : - - KSUSA is proud to announce the 2013 Kneeboard Surfing Titles and Kneeboard Festival will return to Huntington Beach, CA, January 18 and 19.  This event celebrates the 10th year of continuous KSUSA sponsored kneeboard surfing competition, including nine U.S. Titles and one World Titles event.

One of the premier Kneeboarding events in the world, the KSUSA Kneeboard Surfing Titles attracts an international field with some of the sport’s top competitors.  Kneeboarders will face off on the south side of the pier – competing for titles and a chance to represent the U.S. at the World Kneeboard Titles to be held in Tahiti in July 2013.

In addition, Sandy’s Beach Grill will host an official event gathering Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings at 6 p.m.

“Entering 2013, Kneeboarding is officially thriving here in the U.S.,” said Don Harris, KSUSA President.  “In addition to our annual KSUSA Titles, there’s a Kneeboarding circuit on the NSSA and the upcoming 2013 World Titles.  The sport is riding a high we haven’t seen in more than 30 years, maybe ever.”

In addition to pushing performance levels, Harris says the additional contests provide valuable exposure for the sport which he hopes will translate into interest from younger competitors.  A group of talented young U.S. Kneeboarders are expected to make their presence known at the 2013 titles, including Chris Linn, Shayne Dimick and defending KSUSA Junior Champion Evan Odom.

Standing in the way of Kneeboarding’s “next generation” are several battle-tested champions including Cardiff’s Bill Lerner, San Diego’s Jack, Beresford, HB’s Tom Backer and San Diego’s Chris Beresford who dominated the 2012 final in clean head-high conditions.

In the Women’s division Cathy Yturralde is expected to defend a hard-fought 2012 title.  The event will conclude Saturday afternoon with a highly entertaining team competition featuring an annual showdown between HB Kneeboarders and those from other regions. The 2013 Kneeboard Surfing U.S.A. Titles is free and open to the public.  Heats will begin each day at 7 a.m. weather and waves permitting.
