Burleigh churns out fun barrels for final day of competition
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 6 January, 2013 : - - Gold Coast, Queensland -- David Rastovich (Burleigh Heads, Qld / Byron Bay, NSW), outpointed a star-studded final with Jack Freestone (Coolangatta, Qld), Noa Deane (Snapper Rocks, Qld), Noah Lane (Burleigh Heads, Qld), Thomas Woods (Burleigh Heads, Qld) and Anthony Pols (Miami, Qld) who finished second to sixth respectively.
The famed Burleigh point break churned out perfect 1.5m barrelling waves for day-two of competition at the Burleigh Boardriders Single Fin Festival, presented by Billabong. Former local surfer and retro surfboard enthusiast, David Rastovich joined a host of professional and local surfers in the finals of what Burleigh Boardriders member, Dwayne “The Sheriff” Harris dubbed the best Single Fin Classic in the event’s prestigious 16-year history.
David “Rasta”Rastovich managed to emerge from several of Burleigh’s finest tubes in the finals, showing spectators and fellow competitors that his local knowledge of the famed break is still in tack.
Snapper Rocks surfer Noa Deane took home the trophy for the best barrel of the event, for which he scored a perfect 10-point ride, it was one of three perfect 10 scores he received during today’s competition.
The Burleigh Heads rock-speckled shoreline was packed with spectators and littered with retro single fin surfboards made prior to 1985. Crowds quickly turned their attention to the junior division (under 18) as surfers as young as 11 years-old took to the water on surfboards made before they were even born.
In the junior division (under 18) Luke Hynd (Burleigh Heads, Qld) proved too strong for Luke Gyory (Kingscliff, NSW), Lachlan Garland (Burleigh Heads, Qld), Maddy Job (Burleigh Heads, Qld), Liam O’Brien (Burleigh Heads, Qld) and Taj Prasad (Snapper Rocks, Qld).
