Taj's Small Fries event kicks off

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 10 January, 2013 : - - Yallingup -- Professional surfer and world # 6 Taj Burrow was today joined by the Mayor of Bussleton Ian Stubbs and a host of the countries best junior surfing talent to officially open his signature junior surfing event, the Taj's Small Fries Yallingup.

Taj’s Small Fries has become one of the most popular junior surfing events in Australia and is the first event on the Surfing WA event calendar for 2013. The event starts tomorrow and runs over three days on the surf rich coastline of Yallingup, the same stretch of beaches that Taj himself grew up surfing.

Taj Burrow was elated to be in his hometown and hosting an event which has been running since 2006. "Home is an incredibly special place for me and to have this event  for an eighth straight year, I couldn't be happier." Burrow said. Bill Webb of the local Wardan people started proceedings with a welcome to the land ceremony, blessing all involved and spoke of the importance of the waters around Yallingup to the local people.

The City of Busselton Mayor Ian Stubbs officially opened the event to the 110 entrants who are set to compete across six divisions. "Taj is a local product who is achieving amazing results on the world scene. We're very proud to be part of this amazing event, we pride ourselves on being an events capital and this event showcases Yallingup so very well." He said.

Hopefuls will line-up in the 16/U Boy’s, 16/U Girl’s, 14/U Boy’s, 14/U Girl’s, 12/U Boy’s and 12/U Girl's divisions with action kicking off from 7:40am tomorrow, with finals on Sunday. Event officials are confident that the conditions will be ideal over the coming days for the groms who have travelled from as far abroad as Indonesia, Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria.
