Quiksilver and Roxy Pro Trials for the Trials event on the Gold Coast

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 11 January, 2013 : - - Gold Coast, Queensland -- Queensland’s best open male and female surfing athletes are set to hit the water this weekend in the Quiksilver and Roxy Pro Trials for the Trials event on the Gold Coast.

Athletes will be facing off with one another in an effort to secure a place in the upcoming Quiksilver and Roxy Pro trials scheduled for March 1st, 2013.  The top two men and the highest placed female from this weekend’s event will be eligible to mix it up with some of the world’s best surfers when the Quiksilver and Roxy Pro Trials commence.

Current Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) World Junior Champion, Jack Freestone (Coolangatta, QLD) will paddle out first in the men’s division and will be looking to capitalise on his recent blistering form to ultimately slingshot himself into the ASP World Championship Tour’s Quiksilver and Roxy Pro, presented by Landrover events to be held at Snapper Rocks, QLD from the 2nd- 13th March, 2013.

Freestone will be just one of a stellar 32-man draw in the open men’s division who will vie for two positions in the Quiksilver Pro Trials, however to claim victory he will need to defeat the likes of Chris Bennetts (Main Beach, QLD), Damon Harvey (Coolangatta, QLD), Samba Mann (Duranbah, NSW), Dru Adler (Palm Beach, QLD) and Thomas Woods (Burleigh Heads, QLD) just to name a few.

Meanwhile, 16 of the state’s elite female athletes will compete for a single position in the Roxy Pro Trials.

Sister’s Brodie and Amiya Doyle will fuel their sibling rivalry whilst competing against each other for the Roxy Pro Trials spot. Joining them will be 14 surfers who will also be looking to ultimately join the ASP World Championship Tour ranks at this year’s Roxy Pro and surf against the likes of current women’s ASP World Champion, Stephanie Gilmore (Snapper Rocks, QLD).

Dimity Stoyle (Buderim, QLD), Ellie-Jean Coffey (Coolangatta, QLD) and Brittani Nicholl (Kirra, QLD) are also in excellent form and will be the ones to keep an eye out for in the women’s division.

One wildcard from the trials event on March 1st will be awarded entry into the ASP World Championship Tour’s Quiksilver and Roxy Pro events. With strict entry conditions limiting the eligibility of competitors, the Quiksilver and Roxy Pro Trials for the Trials is designed to give Queensland Boardriders a rare opportunity to compete for a place in their local ASP World Tour event.

The Quiksilver and Roxy Pro Trials for the Trials are proudly supported by Chiko, XXXX Summer Bright Lager, Surfing Life, World Surfaris and Surfing Queensland.
