Art, film and the basics of surfing brought to the people

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 14 January, 2013 : - - The scenic stretch of the Orissa coastline is hosting the India Surf Festival. The India Surf Festival aims to introduce the surf culture to Indian people through surfing instruction, a series of films, art and music. So the festival is not just about surfing, but also about music and festivities.

The picturesque stretch of Orissa’s Puri-Konark Marine Drive beach will attract more than 60 surfers from India, Singapore, Spain, Italy, Morocco and Brazil along with some 2,000 visitors who wish to enjoy the spectacle from the sands. The India Surf Festival will also feature art, music, films and some good photography. The waters off the coast of Orissa are perfect for Stand Up Paddle surfing which is done on flat water. The surf board has a paddle attached to it and this type of surfing is becoming quite popular the world over.

Entertainment at India Surf Festival
You can learn the basics of surfing and paddling from surfing experts from across the world. In addition to that you can watch some interesting and inspiring movies and art or you can enjoy the live musical performances as you relish some organic food or rejuvenate yourself with solar clay therapy and synchronise yourself with nature.
 
Beach Festivities
Apart from musical performances, the festival will screen Ocean Monk – a film showcasing group of friends who discover the beauty and power of surfing and try to incorporate their new found love into their search for enlightenment.

Marvel at the art installations by Nova Collective – an assorted group of four designers and musicians including Sachin Shetty, Archan Nair, Kaustubh Kamat and Harshvardhan Kadam. The Nova Collective will also hold a session of live painting to the sound of waves and music created by spontaneous jamming with other bands present at the festival.

Other performers who will perform at the ISF 2013 are I20DUB – a musician from Argentina will perform with other artists from Mumbai and Bhubaneswar, Tribal Flora – a band that plays organic music using instruments like djembes, didgeridoos, morsing or Jew’s harp and various aboriginal drums. The music of Tribal Flora has elements of Indian and western classical, tribal/folk and psychedelic music which is inspired from nature.

Enjoy the various folk dance performances by villagers from nearby regions or marvel at the sand art by the artists from Puri Sand Art Institute. The artists will spontaneously shape out sand carvings showcasing the various aspects of surfing.




The spirit of the India Surf Festival is to encourage Oneness of all kinds of surfers, and experiment sharing the wisdom pools that allow us to become change makers. Join the gathering January 25th through the 27th as global artists, musicians and designers share the joy of surf adventures on the sunny unspoilt beach of Odisha.

The event will include a stand up paddle race, surf expression session, yoga, art installations, dance, a surf movie screening and music. All of these events are a combined effort of international participants from several continents around the world, set against the backdrop of India's beautiful coastal forest at the newly discovered river mouth surf spot known as Lotus Point.
