Winners get wildcard into the Newcastle Surfest Burton Toyota Pro
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 17 January, 2013 : - - The NSW Open State Titles are back and will be hitting Cronulla on the 9th and 10th of February. Some of NSW’s best surfers will go to head-to-head in the two-day unisex event, which will crown the NSW Open Champs.
The winners of both the male and female divisions will be awarded a wildcard into the Newcastle Surfest "Burton Toyota Pro" which will take place from the 18th-24th of February.
The top four finalists in the male division and the top three finalists in the female division will score themselves an entry into the Australian Surf Festival which will be taking place at Port Macquarie in August this year.
There’ll also be $5000 worth of prize money to be handed out to respective finalists in both the male and female divisions. Already on the bill for the event are former World Tour surfers, Darren O’Rafferty, Drew Courtney and local WQS surfer Connor O’Leary.
Connor says: “Having an event in your hometown is always good. You’re a lot more comfortable with everything because you’re at home and you know the setup and what’s happening. I guess it gives you a form of confidence.”
“There’s a few young local guys like Joey Sear and Shane Campbell competing in the event and I really want to see both those guys do well. Both of those guys are incredible surfers.”
“It’s great that they’ve got prize money for the finalists as well and the opportunity to score an entry into Surfest. Plus, you also get the bragging rights of having won at State Title.”
