Chris Michalac wins wild card into Burton Toyota Pro

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 20 January, 2013 : - - Anna Bay local Chris Michalac demonstrated the importance of local knowledge today to win the final of the Port Stephens Toyota trials.  Michalac racked up an impressive score of 19.5 out of a possible 20 to secure a place in next month's ASP 6-Star Burton Toyota Pro round of 144.

Surfers from Hawks Nest in the north to Catherine Hill Bay in the south competed  in difficult surf conditions for a wild card place in the Burton Toyota Pro commencing February 18 at Merewether Beach. The waves on offer were around 1 to 1.5 metres with a strong  south-easterly wind making wave selection crucial.  Conditions did improve with the lower tide resulting in some spectacular aerial surfing.

Pro junior surfers aged 20-years-and-under competed for wildcard entry into Burton Toyota Pro Junior round of 64. Surfers in the under-14 and under-16 divisions competed for the number one seed in the Sanbah Cadet Cup to be held from 15-17 February. Female surfers competed for a wild card into the round of 48 of the Hunter Ports Women's Classic at Merewether Beach 18-24 February.
