Billabong big wave event at Mullaghmore back on hold
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 20 January, 2013 : - - The Billabong Big Wave Tow-Surfing Contest scheduled for Mullaghmore in Ireland has been put back on hold until further notice. The event was given the 'amber light' for a possible start this coming Monday (January 21), but unfortunately the large swell forecast has began to dissipate with the winds also swinging to a less than favourable direction.
But the international surfing event still has a six week window to receive a 'green light for go' before its designated waiting period expries on March 1st. Contest director Paul O'Kane said, though it was diappointing to put the event back on hold, there were more large swells on the way.
"Hopefully one of these next big swells will combine with favourable winds before the March 1st deadline and we will get to witness some spectacular big wave surfing again in county Sligo," he said.
Stayed tuned for further updates and reports.
