Blake Thorton takes the Hurley crew through Surfers Rescue

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 22 January, 2013 : - - Surfing NSW's free CPR and Board Rescue course, Surfers Rescue 24/7 has been going full throttle over the summer period. Knowing the value of such an accreditation, Surfing NSW's corporate partner, Hurley has taken part in the course with a demonstration at Manly early last week.

Taking the Hurley crew through the course was former World Tour surfer and current lifeguard Blake Thornton. Hurley's General Manager Jason Haynes says: "Thanks to Surfing NSW and the Surfers Rescue 24/ 7 program, we had a great morning and learned some very valuable techniques that could potentially save lives."

"Hurley believe in this great program and I personally feel it is a great course that all surfers should do. Surfers have the potential of supporting their communities and it makes the water a safer place."

Surfing NSW CEO Mark Windon said: "It's great to see surf companies like Hurley get behind a program that will potentially save countless amounts of lives. We hope to see a domino-like effect for other organisations who see the value in such a program." All surfers who participated in the course received a certificate stating they're a now properly accredited. Surfers who perform rescues can report their stories with Surfing NSW at info @ surfingnsw.com.au

Eleven times ASP World Surfing Champion, Kelly Slater has seen the value in Surfers Rescue 24/7. Kelly says: "Congratulations to Surfing NSW on the implementation of the Surfers Rescue 24/7 Course and many thanks to the NSW Government in supporting this initiative. Recognising the enormous contribution that recreational surfers make to water safety on a daily basis in NSW is a great message to send to our group and it's importance in protecting the larger community. I'm really glad to hear this."
