Honolua Bay Welcomes The Legends of the Bay
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 28 January, 2013 : - - On Sunday, January 20, 2012 , The bay came alive with Legends in physical and spiritual form thru the magic that happens at Honolua Bay. In a forecasted monster NNW swell, Contest Director John Willard allowed the bay to dictate the offering of a contest or not. It is never about points or the competition when given the opportunity to surf in a sacred break as is Honolua Bay, it is all about the waves, wind and her conditions.
Originally set for Saturday the 19th, it would not happen as the gale conditions and wave formations were un-surfable. John Willard made the definite call for the HSA event on Sunday, and it was right on target. Honolua Bay answered with beautiful glassy 4-6 ft walls of perfection, light winds and a beautiful blue cloudless sky.
Competitors as young as 9 years old, arrived with their surfboard, respect and the intent to do their best. The Legends of the Bay for 2013 included; Buzzy Kerbox, Mark Anderson, Less Potts, Matt Kinoshita, Roy Yamada and Albert Jenks, there was a heat specifically featuring the legendary surfers.
Honolua Surf Company one of the event’s main sponsors, provided the competitors with a bags of prizes, as Duke’s Beach House and TS Restaurants handed out gift certificates to the top 3 winners of every heat! All in all it was a epic day of Honolua Bay love and Maui Surf Ohana magic.
Mahalo to the sponsors of Legends of the Bay; Honolua Surf Company, DaKine, Duke’s Beach House, Pakaloha, HAS, TS Restaurants, Schweitzer Sports, Pitzer Built, Beach Park, Maui Surf Ohana, Windmills, Mama’s Fish House and Duck Divers Surf Wax
