Quiksilver’s Justin Riney exploring Florida's waterways on 365 day journey

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 31 January, 2013 : - - Expedition Florida 500 (XF500) is a yearlong modern-day exploration of Florida’s coastline, waterways, and aquatic ecosystems, as seen through the eyes of the waterman in honor of a significant anniversary for Florida. 2013 is Florida's 500th anniversary since Ponce de León landed on Florida’s coastline back in 1513, and is being commemorated statewide in Florida through the Viva Florida 500 initiative led by the Florida Department of State.

In celebration of this momentous occasion, Quiksilver Waterman Collection has partnered with Mother Ocean, Tahoe SUP and Viva Florida 500 to embark on a yearlong journey combining the best of exploration, adventure, stewardship, science, and sport into a package that will include the full gamut of the waterman’s lifestyle.

Quiksilver’s Justin Riney will be leading the movement for the entire 365 days and is documenting the journey through daily blogging, daily photos and videos for social media outlets, filming for their own documentary, and filming for Tahoe SUP’s EXPLORE project series.

The expedition’s primary goal is to highlight the importance of stewardship efforts as they relate to the ocean, coastlines, and waterways. Florida is unique in that it embodies the entire aquatic ecosystem from source to sea – one of the few places on Earth with such thriving wildlife and a natural environment based around water.

Florida Secretary of State Ken Detzner remarked that XF500 raises awareness of the unique landscape we have in our beautiful state and how we can all help to preserve, protect and enjoy it for the next 500 years. “We are honored to be partnering with Mother Ocean, Inc. and Expedition Florida 500 for this statewide, yearlong adventure highlighting Florida's cultural, historic and natural resources."
