Locals Miguel Diaz,  Wilfredo "Control" Daliz, Carlos Cabrero will compete

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 5 February, 2013 : - - The Coors Light Wildcard Trials were held this past weekend at Playa Jobos, Isabela. What was on the line? Just a Round of 96 wildcard slot for the winner straight into the 2013 Rip Curl Pro Puerto Rico presented by seepuertorico.com next week (Feb 9-13).

Additionally, 2nd place would get a Round of 144 wildcard slot into the main event. Rippable head high waves greeted the competitors, and they held nothing back. When the dust settled, Miguel Diaz won, earning himself a Round of 96 wildcard, which was paid for in full by Coors Light. Runner-up finisher and Jobos local, Wilfredo "Control" Daliz, claimed the Round of 144 slot with some exciting surfing of his own.

Nearly 2 1/2 years after history was made on The Search, Rip Curl will be returning to the shores of Isabela, Puerto Rico (Feb 9-13) to hold the 2013 Rip Curl Pro Puerto Rico proudly presented by seepuertorico.com. This time around, the event is a 4-star rated ASP event, boasting a 144-man competitor field with ASP WCT standouts and local rising stars alike.

This year Playa Jobos, Isabela will play the arena, which will undoubtedly allow the likes of CJ Hobgood, Taylor Knox, Brian Toth, Cory Lopez, and more to showcase their world-class talent. With a promising forecast for the extent of the waiting period, according to official forecast partner SURFLINE, the stars are aligning for another historic event.

In addition to the traditional powerhouse names of professional surfing, this event promises to expose and shed light on local Puerto Rican talent, who are all ready to represent their county in front of their home crowd.

The Coors Light Wildcard Trials were held this past weekend at Jobos, where Miguel Diaz won, earning himself a Round of 96 wildcard. Runner-up finisher and Jobos local, Wilfredo "Control" Daliz also earned a wildcard with his performance. Additionally, Puerto Rican charger, Carlos Cabrero, has been granted the Round of 64 wildcard, which puts him in a great position for the main stage.

 


"To be a wildcard, for me it is a great opportunity since this is the first WQS event since 1989 and to have the wildcard it is a recognition of all the years that I was competing on the professional tour," Cabrero stated. "Thanks to Rip Curl for giving me the honor of representing Puerto Rico in this big event."

Additionally, the Rip Curl Pro Puerto Rico promises to be much more than a surf contest. Coors Light will be hosting live music at their stage just steps down from the main contest site on Friday, Feb 8 and Saturday, Feb 9 from 8pm - 2am. Rip Curl will be hosting the My Bikini Walk-Off presented by The Room on Saturday at 8:30 pm..
