Joel Tudor Duct Tape Invt'l sights on Noosa

Joel Tudor Duct Tape Invitational
Presented by Vans
Noosa Heads, Queensland Australia
15 - 16 March 2013
World’s Best Longboarders Express Their Progressive Surf Style
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 19 February, 2013 : - - The Joel Tudor Duct Tape Invitational presented by Vans lands in the spirited surf locale of Noosa Heads, Australia on March 15 and 16 as part of the historic Noosa Crick’s Jeep Festival of Surfing. The world’s best longboard surfers will express their uniquely progressive longboard style for a piece of a $10,000 USD prize purse in the traveling contest series.
Five-time world longboard champion and contest director Joel Tudor will host a strict, traditional loggin’ event with single-fin, leashless boards.
"As a kid, I started going to Noosa in the early 90's, and there wasn't much of a loggin' scene. It's really cool to see the movement that's going on there now and how its grown,” says Joel Tudor, Contest Director. “For me, doing this event at Noosa means giving the Australians the stage to highlight their talent.”
Expect to see inventive surf style along with classic nose riding that harkens back to surfing’s early years, featuring progressive techniques only today’s most talented surfers can bring.
The 16-man contest spans a two-day holding period and will offer a $10,000 USD prize purse with top contenders including defending title owner and Noosa local Harrison Roach from Australia, past winners Alex Knost and Tyler Warren of California, Floridian Justin Quintana and other longboard specialists such as Californians Jared Mell and Ryan Burch. New invitees to watch include Noosa locals Jai Lee and Matt Cuddihy who will compete against fellow resident Roach for a chance to win their backyard.
Noosa marks the seventh event in the Joel Tudor Duct Tape series, with each stop taking place at famous global surf spots. Quintal won the inaugural contest at the 2010 East Coast Surfing Championships in Virginia Beach, followed by another win in late fall waves at Montauk, New York’s Ditch Plains. Three Duct Tape contests were held in 2011 with Knost winning at Steamer Lane in Santa Cruz, Warren capturing the title at the Salinas Longboard Festival in Spain and Knost again pacing the field at Surfrider Beach in Malibu later that year. Closing out the summer in 2012, Australian Harrison Roach took first in the latest competition held in Biarritz, France.
Contest Invitees Include: Harrison Roach, Alex Knost, Robbie Kegel, Tyler Warren, Ryan Burch, James Parry, Dane Peterson, Justin Quintal, Zye Norris, Jared Mell, Matty Chojnacki, Jai Lee, Thomas Bexon, Matt Cuddihy, Troy Elmore and a local wildcard to be announced.
