Quiksilver's New Boardriders Café and Store Now Open on Jalan Legian in Kuta

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 21 February, 2013 : - - Quiksilver Indonesia is proud to partner with CV Kalimaya and CV Bhara to announce the opening of their new Boardriders Café and retail store at 362 Jalan Legian, directly in front of Quiksilver’s Bali headquarters in the heart of world famous Kuta and a short walk away from the beach.

The new two-story Boardriders Café boasts over 500 square meters of space, and while the Boardriders concept may have been pioneered in Europe, Quiksilver Indonesia’s first Boardriders Café has its own unique Bali style, with a long list of attractions including the best apparel, surfboards, food, coffee and haircuts on the island.

Starting from the top is the Snake Pit, an upstairs surfing memorabilia-filled hangout complete with a billiard table, below ice-cold beer, big screen TV’s, free Wifi, and a deliciously varied menu of both Western and Indonesian fare open for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Top’s on the list for a morning feed is the Surfers Big Breakfast that includes eggs, toast, mushrooms, tomatoes and spinach along with juice, coffee or tea and a fruit salad for only RP. 70,000.  Eggs, pancakes, muesli, fresh juices and smoothies, and the best ever selection of Indonesian coffees from all over the archipelago.

Professionally trained baristas will be only too happy to whip up a cappuccino or latte from the flagship blend of mellow Sumatran coffee beans or an espresso from the dark roasted Archipelago blend from Quintino’s, classic Italian Roast. With variety such as Single origin coffees from Kintamani in Bali, Java, Gayo Aceh, Mandheling, Lake Toba Sumatra, Flores, Toraja Sulawesi and Papua or the famous 100% pure certified Arabica Luwak Coffee can be individually ground and brewed on the spot.

For lunch, choose the Big Healthy salad for Rp. 50,000 or go for the juicy Beef Burger with cheese, bacon, tomato, onion, BBQ sauce and potato wedges for only Rp. 60,000. Craving Indonesian food?  The Nasi Goreng and Mie Goreng are just the ticket, and at just Rp. 40,000 better try one of each!

Dinner specialties include the Lamb Shank Pie for meat lovers and Barramundi fish tacos on the lighter side, with a fair selection of vegetarian dishes and various salads.  Healthy, wholesome and delicious, and nothing costs more than Rp. 70,000.

Sports fanatics will be in 7th heaven in the Snake Pit; with satellite TV’s broadcasting the latest sporting events on the TV screens all day long and on into the night, with ice-cold beer chilled down to a frosty -3.9 degrees! Bintang’s are only Rp. 20,000, Heineken is Rp. 27,000, and San Miguel’s are Rp. 25,000, and when a major surfing competition is being web cast live you can bet the big screen will be rolled down and it will bestanding room only.

Surfing memorabilia fills the Snake Pit and includes old posters, photos from Bali photographer JasonChilds, surfboards from Quiksilver legends including 1998 Pipeline Master Jake “the Snake” Paterson and more.

The ground level retail space is chock full of the latest and greatest offerings from Quiksilver, Roxy, DC, and Moskova, including exciting signature boardshorts, bikinis, and all the accessories. Penny and Freedom Dolly skateboards, sunglasses, watches and sunscreen and, exclusive-to Quiksilver stores in Indonesia, Channel Island Kelly Slater and Dane Reynolds model surfboards. There is guaranteed to be something for every surfer, skater, extreme sports fan and fashionistas, and everyone in between.

Fresh off a surf trip?  The ground level Boardriders Café has a bar and tables where hungry crew can dig into a tasty and healthy baguette, sourdough or Panini sandwich, wrap or salad, and then choose from a variety of smoothies, milkshakes and freshjuices to wash it all down.  If a caffeine and sugar pick-me-up is preferred, there is the great selection ofboth hot and cold coffee based drinks and a great dessert selection to get you amped back up.

After getting a good feed in and restocking your wardrobe for a night out on the town, what could be better than sitting in a barber chair and getting a good clean shave and a haircut in air-conditioned comfort, Bintang in hand?

The Barber Shop at the Boardriders Café is possibly the first-ever in a surf shop, with haircuts for kids at Rp. 40,000 and Rp. 50,000 for adults.  For those wanting the ultimate barber chair experience, a haircut, shave, light massage and a cold Bintang will only set you back Rp. 85,000.

The new Quiksilver Boardriders Café is the realization of plan created by Quiksilver SEA CEO Paul Hutson, who after a retail tour of Europe came back with the idea.  “I was truly inspired by what I saw, especially with the Boardriders stores such as the one Tiago Peres (world tour pro surfer) set up in Portugal. His store truly represented everything that was Quiksilver, near the beach with a surf school, skatepark, café and bar, and retail space all in one location,” said Hutson.

“Here in Asia, especially in Indonesia where retail has been expanding so rapidly, we think its time to offer customers more than just a rack of clothing with a lightbox above it.  So here is the Quiksilver answer for our customers, the Boardriders Café!”

Plans are currently on the board to open more Boardriders Café’s around Indonesia, as the response has been so positive.  Quiksilver partners Mrs. Wiwien Meinur from CV Kalimaya and Nyoman Anggara from CV Bhara are both very pleased with the end result and its reception.

“We all really liked the concept when Paul approached me with it,” said Anggara.  “And seeing it now in reality, I like this Boardriders Café even more.  As a surfer I think it’s really cool, and as a businessman I think its just what we need, as is it sends the message that it’s not just about selling clothes it’s about creating a place that is fun and comfortable, that gives the customer a great experience.  That’s why partnering up with Quiksilver is such a joy, because they are always coming up with something fresh!”  Quiksilver Indonesia and CV Bhara now have three stores together on Jalan Legian in Kuta.

The Boardriders Café is open from 8 am to 10 pm every day of the week; the Snake Pit is open from 8 am until 12 am (with last food orders at 10 pm), and the Barber Shop open from 10 am to 8 pm.
