Lynch reclaims the Victorian Open Longboard Title
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 25 February, 2013 : - - Adam Lynch (Geelong) has taken out the Victorian Longboard Longboard Titles for the second year running in small clean conditions at Jan Juc. With a steadily declining easterly swell on offer, the event was moved to Jan Juc due to poor conditions at Point Impossible.
Lynch was the number one seeded surfer and did not disappoint taking out Round 1 on Saturday before making it to the final in Round 2 and placing third. “I didn’t have any expectations coming into the event. I haven’t surfed a longboard for almost a year, but it was good to take it out again.” Lynch said.
Josh Keogh (NSW) has recently moved to Victoria to study at university and put on an impressive display in the second round taking the final over Kane Tankard (Dromana), Lynch and Oscar Lalor (Apollo Bay). Keogh finished second place overall in the ratings, whilst Will Cousins (Torquay) and Tankard finished in third and fourth overall.
“We seem to have the same crew most years competing, but its great to have Josh move down here and start entering events. He is a great surfer” said Lynch.
The Open Women’s division ended in an unbreakable tie with good friends Molly Powell (Anglesea) and Sam Suendermann (Anglesea) both collecting a first place and a second place result over the two rounds. Powell took out the first round on Saturday whilst Suendermann took the second round on Sunday.
Emma Webb (Jan Juc) finished in third place on both days and in the overall ratings. Powell and Suendermann will be crowned dual state champions.
Other state title winners include Ben Considine (Barwon Heads, U/18 Boys), Aby Firns (Ocean Grove, U18 Girls), Michael Pinney (Point Lonsdale, O/35), Kate Sullivan (Anglesea, O/35 Women), Tom Bellisai (Mornington, O/40), Grant Price (Fairhaven, O/45), Greg Brown (Torquay, O/50), Bud White (Altona, O/55), Graham Slade (Point Lonsdale, O60) and Bob Smith (Jan Juc, O/65).
