Shoal Bay Resort & Spa get behind Southern Cross SUP Festival
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 27 February, 2013 : - - The 2013 Shoal Bay Resort & Spa Southern Cross SUP Festival will kick off at Port Stephens from the 16-19th of May 2013. Over 150 of NSW’s best SUP riders will participate in the four-day event which will incorporate racing, surfing and prone paddling in a variety of different conditions.
The surfing element of the event will run from Thursday the 16th and Friday the 17th, with the racing and prone divisions running from lunchtime on the Friday until Sunday the 19th. The surf divisions will take place at either One-Mile Beach or Birubi Beach. The racing divisions will take place at Shoal Bay, right in front of the Shoal Bay Resort & Spa.
The top NSW surfers will go on to qualify for the 2013 Australian SUP Titles, which will take place in June, 2013. Divisions for the surfing event include: open men, open women, open over-40 men and women, open over-50 men and women and under-21 men and women. Events in the racing event include: stand-up paddle board, prone paddle board, 20 kilometre elite marathon, eight kilometre sprint race, a community teams race and the Shoal Bay Resort & Spa Dash for Cash.
Surfing NSW CEO Mark Windon says: “The 2013 Shoal Bay Resort & Spa Southern Cross SUP Festival is shaping up to be a fantastic event. Port Stephens is the perfect amphitheatre, we couldn’t picture a more idyllic setting for the event.”
$5000.00 worth of prize money will be handed out throughout the respective divisions. Throughout the event, there’ll be an array of festival happenings taking place such as: free SUP lessons, SUP demonstration and coaching, SUP industry night and stalls and SUP yoga.
Entries to the event will be open on April 1st, 2013. Shoal Bay Resort & Spa is the official festival venue for the event and are available to meet the needs of all participants. During the event, the resort will provide all competitors with meal specials, discounted accommodation rates, board storage, gym and spa access and host all presentations. Surfing NSW will also be staging a SUP judging seminar and our free CPR and Board Rescue course, Surfers Rescue 24/7 at the resort.
