Kelly takes to golfing on the Gold Coast
Kelly goes golfing for the Quiksilver Foundation Golf Classic
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 27 February, 2013 : - - Eleven time ASP World Champion Kelly Slater was the highlight participant on the Golf Course as he joined a field of 124 who played for fun and charity at the annual Quiksilver Foundation Golf Classic.
“I arrived on the Gold Coast yesterday and managed to get a two hour surf in this morning so now I’m in for a round of golf which is a game I enjoy," said Slater. Golf is a passion of Slater and he plays off an impressive handicap of 4.
A few passing heavy showers did not deter the players at all with the course playing conditions best described as soggy. This year's Quiksilver Foundation Golf Classic raised funds for two organizations, Surfrider Foundation and The Gold Coast Suns No Boundaries program.
The Surfrider Foundation project is centered around an initiative aimed at Gold Coast coastal management of the surf breaks. The No Boundaries project being undertaken by the Gold Coast Suns Australian Football League Team aims to help those located in remote communities of the Northern Peninsula Area of Australia.
Gold Coast Suns Vice-Captain Nathan Bock was a keen participant on the golf course today. Despite recovering from a broken leg almost 12-months ago, Bock is well on the way to full recovery. “I’m looking forward to checking out the Quiksilver Pro this weekend, it sounds like the waves will be on straight way – I enjoy surfing and to see the world’s best in action is always awesome.”
Bock is also competent with the golf club, playing off a handicap of 15. The Quiksilver Foundation Golf Day is an annual event pre the Quiksilver Pro on the Gold Coast and forms part of the Global Quiksilver Foundation Program.
The Quiksilver and Roxy Pro’s presented by Land Rover officially begins on Saturday with the Moskova Trials on Friday. The Moskova Trials will decide the final wild-card position across both Men’s and Women’s divisions.
