Groms hang out with Tom Carroll and Mark Richards

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 4 March, 2013 : - - Eight Vegemite SurfGroms shared the spotlight with their heroes at the weekend as VIP guests at the Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast. Four time World Champion Mark Richards and two time World Champion Tom Carroll, along with fellow Quiksilver ambassadors Matt Banting, Garrett Parkes, Alyssa Lock and Phillipa Anderson were on hand to teach the next generation of surfers.

Vegemite SurfGroms is the world-first national junior surfing program which offers 5-12 olds an opportunity to develop strong ocean awareness and beach safety skills, while also developing a proficiency in surfing. More than 15,000 children across Australia have enjoyed the program since it started in October, 2011.

Every registered participant had a chance to win a trip to the Quiksilver Pro by providing a photo of themselves enjoying the program through the Vegemite SurfGroms SicPic competition.

The eight winners of the Vegemite SurfGroms SicPic competition were: Lucia White, Rozelle, NSW  (Manly surf School);  Tyler Widdowson, Emerald Beach, NSW (Solitary Islands Surf School); Ryder Crawford, Mudjimba, QLD (Coolum Surfing School); Cameron Boulton, Sunset Strip, VIC (Island Surfboards Surf School); Kai Goodman, Upper Sturt, SA (Surf Culture); Brooke Williams, Acton Park, TAS (Coastrider Surf Academy); Charlotte Pither, Bundall, QLD (Surfing Services); Oscar Darby, Busselton, WA (Yallingup Surf School).

The prize included: flights and transfers to Coolangatta Airport for one child and one adult; one night’s accommodation at Coolangatta for one child and one adult; a Quiksilver Pro event merchandise pack; exclusive behind the scenes tour of the event site and the opportunity to meet and surf with some of the professional surfers competing.

They also had access to the best seats in town on the Vegemite Mightiest Seat on the Beach, which provides an uninterrupted, elevated view of the competition area plus also letting the kids try tarp surfing. It will be operating each day from around 7.30 in morning through to 4pm and serving VEGEMITE on toast all day plus hosting tons of giveaways with loads of Vegemite  surf wax and Wahu beach toys.

Vegemite SurfGroms programs are continuing through the Surfing Australia Surf Schools Network with more than 70 delivery centres around the country. Parents can still register their children through the website –surfgroms.com

Vegemite SurfGroms is proudly supported by Vegemite, Quiksilver, Wahu, Surfing Australia, the Australian Sports Commission, Surfing World, Coastalwatch and Channel 9.
