'Wading for the Sun' a new oil-painting by Jay Alders
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 09 March, 2013 : - - Warm summer sun, waves peeling, mesmerizing light reverberating through the ever-changing forms of the ocean and the sight of a beautiful girl wading towards the sea. For many of us, these things bring us passion, tranquillity, maybe even envy. This painting has been an on-going project for some time now and Jay Alders wanted to share a little bit about how it unfolded.
It the late summer of 2012 he was working on some new designs. We were a month away from Surf Expo and a version of this painting made the cut. It had more potential. Jay liked the surreal and dynamic energy in the sky and the overly exaggerated curves and compositional lines and thought this would make a great painting. It was not to be released until the painting was done.
Jay started work on what he thought would be a quick painting yet as it often goes, things happen. He ended up moving, changed studio spaces, planning for Surf Expo trade show, freelance projects came across his desk that were too good to pass up, several trips occurred, Hurricane Sandy devastated his home town area of the Jersey shore and charitable work became his obsession, his cat sadly passed away too etc. Life threw a bunch of curve balls and his painting sat on his easel starting at him reminding him daily that it needed attention.

He made time when he could between the chaos and it became his sanctuary of escape. This painting served him, it taught him, it created itself as he floated through ego-less zone of creativity. As with most of his work, there is some hidden imagery and symbolism that revealed itself, it is a therapy. he didn’t base this off of any photos which is always challenging to attempt to think as light thinks, bending realities to form a new believable paradigm.
He is excited to share this now. Jay gives to you now, “Wading for the Sun”.
