Oakley High School Surf Team Challenge Returns for 2013

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 12 March, 2013 : - - Surfer Magazine announces the return of the Oakley High School Surf Team Challenge in collaboration with the Oakley Surf Shop Challenge. Two stops of the 2013 Oakley Surf Shop Challenge, Southwest and West, will host the Oakley High School Surf Team Challenge for the second year running pitting 10 high school teams against each other for the regional title.

Each winning high school team will receive $5,000 ($2,500 for their Athletic Department and $2,500 for their Science Department). A $1,000 Spirit Award, donated to the Associated Student Body fund, is also on the line for the most spirited school in each region.

The high school division, which debuted in 2012, was wildly successful with top high school surf teams from around San Diego and Orange Counties turning up for the chance to compete. This year, the Southwest regional will take place on April 6th at Seaside Reef in Cardiff, Calif. where 2012 Champions Torrey Pines High School will defend their 2012 title.

The 10 Southwest invited teams include: 1. Carlsbad High School, 2. La Costa Canyon High School, 3. Granite Hills High School, 4. Point Loma High School, 5. Torrey Pines High School, 6. San Dieguito Academy, 7. Canyon Crest High School, 8. Mar Vista High School, 9. Santa Fe Christian High School, and 10. La Jolla High School.

The West regional will take place June 1 at 54th/56th Street in Newport Beach, Calif. where Newport’s Harbor High took the win in 2012. No doubt they’ll be back to defend their crown this summer.

The complete list of West invited teams includes: 1. Newport Harbor High School, 2. Corona Del Mar High School, 3. Edison High School, 4. San Clemente High School, 5. Woodrow Wilson Classical High School, 6. Huntington Beach High School, 7. Aliso Niguel High School, 8. Dana Hills High School, 9. Tesoro High School, and 10. Santa Margarita Catholic High School.

Special thanks to Oakley, Surfer Magazine and other event partners, Bubble Gum Surf Wax, Futures Fins, Muscle Milk, New Era, Sol Republic, and Waterman’s Applied Science for their support, without which the High School Surf Team Challenge series would not be possible.
