Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 18 March, 2013 : - - The Hawaiian Water Patrol started when Uncle Terry and Uncle Brian teamed up to provide water safety for the pro surfing events... or something like that. The group had seen Herbie Fletcher on his jet-ski in big surf helping people when they needed it and decided to follow his lead. Up until then the lifeguards depended on surfboards for heavy water rescues, with varying degrees of success.
