Joli takes in all that is Margaret River
Latest Surfing Images from Peter 'Joli' Wilson in Western Australia
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 21 March, 2013 : - - Hi again from Margaret River, Western Australia. After three days of snoozing, Margaret River woke up this morning with solid six foot surf pushing through.
The lay day made for plenty of ‘vine views’ with visits to the wineries and kangaroos were chased, or dodged on and off the roads and a friendly cricket match was played but all these activities were left behind as Surfers Point fired up.
The women were the first out there with two rounds knocked off the schedule followed by the completion of the Round of 96 men. The buzz word of the day was ‘interference’ with Sally Fitzgibbons and Laura Enever clashing in their heat; then Taj Burrow and Lincoln Taylor scored a ‘double interference’ with both knocked out of the contest.
The schedule is going to be tight with a lot of surfing between now and the finals on Sunday. On the up side, the surf is going to pump everyday in the 6’-8’ range with the possibility of bigger sets.
There is even a chance that the contest could move to The Box, just across the bay, if the winds and the swell direction co-operate. It’s a bit too early to pick a winner but Bede Durbidge, Dusty Payne and Owen Wright in the mens and Sally Fitzgibbons, Tyler Wright and Carissa Moore are looking good in the women’s. Lots more action to come and I’ll be uploading more images as it unfolds.
The swell is supposed to stay around the same size tomorrow so there will be plenty more action out at the main ‘Margs’ break. I’ll continue to upload images as the action goes down.
