Nicola Bresciani wins West Side Surf Open

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 22 March 2005: - - Quiksilver team rider Nicola Bresciani starts the 2005 Italian Surfing Circuit with a brillant win in the opening contest (WEST SIDE SURF OPEN, sponsored by Body Glove, held in Bogliasco (Genova). The sea was flat at the first lighty, but the swell increased fast and for the final the 4 finalists had to fight against a strong current and the 2+ meter waves.

In spite of the onshore wind, Nicola got the only tube ride seen in the 8 hours of contest. In the semifinals, Nicola got a 9,0 and a 8,5! "I never saw a tube so deep and long in a Italian surf contest, but apart that tube, Nicola dominated the contest from the beginning" said the head judge Graziano Lai at the end of the prize giving ceremony.

"I was a little nervous at the beginning, as I didn't expect that size and I didn't feel confident with my 6'4" board. I used this board only once before, and not even in Italy, so I felt kind of stressed at the beginning, but after the first heat I felt more and more confident with my board and at the end I was happy I put it in my boardbag" said Nicola.

In second place Lorenzo Castagna, third Marco Urtis and fourth Stefano Giuliani, all from Tuscany region. The success of the Quiksilver team was underlined also by the performances of Giovanni Colotto and Simone Bali, equal fifth.
