Board Sports Management Athlete and Team Update for Spring Of 2005
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 18 April, 2005 : - - Indialantic, Florida USA -- Board Sports Management, Inc., the surfing world’s leading athlete and event management agency is pleased to announce an athlete and event update for the spring of 2005.
Athletes:
C.J. Hobgood – Following last week’s conclusion of the annual Camp Hobgood, C.J. is home in Florida spending time with his wife, Rachel. C.J.’s apparel and shoe sponsor, Globe International, was a major sponsor of this year’s Camp Hobgood. The 2001 world champion and current equal 5th will head to California next week for the 4-star Body Glove Surfabout before traveling to Tahiti the first part of May to defend his title as current champion of the Billabong Pro Teahupoo WCT event. C.J. also recently entered into a partnership with Sea-Doo allowing him use of Sea-Doo’s many types of watercraft. C.J. and Rachel are expecting the birth of their first child, a girl, in early July. Damien Hobgood – Damien, like his twin brother, is home relaxing following the success of Camp Hobgood. He will also be competing in the Body Glove event at Trestles before heading off to the WCT contest in Tahiti. Following that tournament, Damien and the rest of the elite WCT group of surfers will move on to Tavarua, Fiji where Damien will defend his title as reigning champion. The Fiji event will have extra meaning for C.J. and Damien as Globe International, their apparel and shoe sponsor, has taken over the title sponsorship of the prestigious event. On April 1, Damien also entered into a multi-year sponsorship agreement with eyewear manufacturer Anon, a subsidiary of Burton. Lisa Andersen – Four-time ASP world champion Lisa Andersen is currently in Fiji overseeing the running of the Roxy Pro WCT event. Lisa went to Fiji straight from London where she headed a press conference announcing the Roxy Pro WCT contest to be held in late May in Cornwall, England. Among the many things on Lisa’s 2005 agenda is the creation and development of Camp Lisa, an exclusive female Camp aimed at developing the potential of America’s very best girl surfers. The initial Camp Lisa is set for late October in Puerto Rico.
Ben Bourgeois – Ben continues to recuperate nicely following shoulder surgery as result of an injury at the mid-February Hang Loose WQS event in Brazil. The former amateur world champion and WCT competitor has also used this downtime period to have lasik surgery on his eyes, bringing his vision back to 20/20. The rehabilitation of his shoulder is on track, and Ben is expecting to resume his WQS run and bid for the WCT at the upcoming Body Glove Surfabout in late April.
Ola Eleogram – 18-year-old Ola is enjoying a good start to his rookie year as a professional surfer. Although the competitive year is young, Ola is now in 11th place on the WQS ratings following a 3rd place (and his first final) at February’s 4-star Monster Energy Pro at the Banzai Pipeline and a quarter final placing at last week’s Energy Australia Open at Newcastle, Australia.
Adam Wickwire – 17-year-old Adam is riding a wave of momentum following his first significant professional win at last month’s Lost Junior Pro event in Florida. Adam spent much of last winter in Hawaii working on his big wave skills and was in Australia earlier this year free surfing and competing in the WQS contest in Western Australia. He heads to Teahupoo, Tahiti in early May for further development of his talents in heavier conditions. Adam plans to enter a few more WQS events this year and to complete the North American leg of the ASP Junior Pro series. More info at www.adamwickwire.com
Clay Marzo – 15-year-old Maui prodigy Clay Marzo was recently crowned King of the Camp at the 2005 elite Camp Hobgood. Clay is now in Indonesia on a boat with six-time world champion Kelly Slater for Quiksilver’s exclusive Young Guns Trip. The NSSA’s current explorer boys and open juniors division national champion recently qualified to represent Hawaii in the 2005 Quiksilver ISA World Junior Championships.
