Young Quiksilver Rider Nicolaus von Rupp with broken board surfs into the Nokia  Pro Quarter Finals at the Portuguese National Championship at Praia Grande, Sintra Portugal

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 17 August, 2005 : - - Monday August 15-2005  the Nokia Pro finished in Praia Grande, Sintra, the fourth Round of the Portuguese Championship with prize money of 3,750 Euros for the Men’s Open Division and 1000 Euros for the Women’s Division. 

The weather conditions were excellent with good waves,an impressive support system by organized by Antonio Pedro of Alfaroba and a large enthusiastic crowd which packed the beaches with people  getting away from the  Lisbon Heat wave. 

15 year old Nicolaus who surfs for the German National Team ,like the current 2004/2005 European Champion Marlon Lipke, both living in Portugal.  Nicolaus has not been in Portugal for 7 weeks after the Areia Branca  Portugal Contest going to Newquay  England and then traveling with the Quiksilver Bus on  Tour  to  the Amado Pro- Junior Portugal , Tapia  Island Style Pro-Junior Spain ( ¼ Finals), Quiksilver Grom ( Capbreton France ) World qualifying Series as best European Junior surfer after the French team of Surfers, being beaten in the last seconds of the (Lacenau France) Oakley  Pro-Junior event  by the former junior world champion and his friend Gony Zubizarreta who he traveled with while at the Mr. Price Pro Durban, WQS in South Africa.

Hearing the night before of the event that the Portuguese Association of Surfing Professional allowed him to participate, Nicolaus caught a flight out of Bordeaux to get to his Home Beach of Praia Grande , Sintra Portugal  arriving 1hour before his heat, to get his competition identification.

Even so exhausted from the heavy toll of traveling, Nicolaus making it thru the rounds to the quarterfinals surfing with a broken board and again losing in the last seconds of the Heat to the Winner of the competition Jao Antunes but ahead of the Portuguese National under  18 Champion Ivo Santos .Jao Antunes  won the Final  ahead of the National Leader in the Portuguese Men’s Open  Nicolaus's fellow Quiksilver Team Rider Jose Gregorio.
