The Porthleven Challenge
Porthleven, UK 6 month waiting period 2005/06
Porthleven Challenge announced for UK surfers
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 1 October, 2005 : - - The Realm is proud to announce in association with Etnies, Electric and the Porthleven Surf Club a unique surf contest in the real spirit of the brand. It is widely beleived that some of Britain's best surfers are NOT currently chasing ratings points and attending contests in the UK and Europe. The Realm is giving the opportunity to these surfers to prove themselves in a 'contest' that is far more suited to their type of surfing.
32 surfers have been hand picked on their ability in big hollow surf and will compete riding the best waves the UK has to offer. Ex-British student champion and Porthleven local Dan "mole" Joel heads an impressive list of surfers on standby for the contest. British professional Russell Winter is also among the invitees which also includes fellow Newquay surfers Spencer Hargraves and Ben Baird. Porthleven boys Jake and Sam Boex and Geordie Gabe Davies are also in the starting line-up as well as Sam Lamiroy, Alan Stokes, and Mark Harris.
The site is perfect for holding the contest. We will be using the area of land directly in front of the break as the contest site meaning the judges and spectators will be just yards from the action. To ensure we get the best conditions available we have a six month waiting period starting from October 1st. The event will only be held when the conditions are perfect and when the swell is at least 6 feet. At this size, Porthleven is an awesome site and is, without doubt, one of the most photogenic spots on the planet.
The Porthleven challenge will have a waiting period of six months commencing on the first of October. The criteria for the contest to run is a minimum six foot swell so that both the surfers and the location-Porthleven reef will be showcased in ideal conditions. All sponsors are thoroughly stoked to have the full support of Porthleven surf Club who will be assisting closely with the organisation and running of the event...Watch this space for any updates and be ready!!!
