Reef Revels in Bobby Martinez Signing After a Win at Steamer Lane

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, October 25th, 2005 (San Diego, CA) – Fresh off a 4 Star WQS win at Steamer Lane, Reef is proud to announce the signing of Santa Barbara local, Bobby Martinez. The signing of the 23 year old goofy footer marks another key addition to the Reef apparel team since the signing of Brad Gerlach, Stephen Koehne, Evan Valiere, and Australians Leigh Sedley and Damon Nicholls.

The ink had barely dried on Bobby’s contract before news of his win at Steamer Lane was announced. The victory earned him 1500 QS points, 10,000 US dollars and further cemented a 2006 WCT berth.

Global Team manager Heath Walker commented, “We signed Bobby on Friday, and Monday morning he was sporting the Reef logo on the winners podium in Santa Cruz. We couldn’t be more stoked.” Heath added further, “The addition of Bobby demonstrates a significant step towards securing the best up and coming surfers in the world to represent Reef apparel.”

Bobby has stood out as a gifted surfer since his early days on the NSSA where he still holds the record for winning 7 national titles. Bobby has spent the last few years competing on various legs of the QS, but has intensely focused his efforts on the 2005 season allowing him to really hone his competitive surfing at that level. His efforts paid off with a huge win at the 5 Star in Brazil, and a 3rd place showing in Portugal.

Bobby commented, “I’m really stoked to be a part of Reef, especially because of my connection with Heath after all our years on the QS together. I’m looking forward to achieving all my goals with such a solid company.”
