Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 29 October, 2005 : - -  At Costa da Caparica, Portugal, the  Eurosurf 2005 ended today with the victory of the at home nation, Portugal. France finished second and the previous European champion Spain, third. From the 23rd to the 29th of October nearly 200 athletes from 13 countries put up a spectacular show of surf, longboard and bodyboard.

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 29 October, 2005 : - -  Portugal has confirmed the most daring expectations and showed one more time, in the finals of this Championship, the quality and force of  their national Surfers winning the European Surf Championship and 3 individual titles. In The Surf Open, Miguel Ximenez got the title of European Champion with only 18 years of age. Rita Pires in the Bodyboard Ladies and Peter Araújo in the category of Surf Master also collected the European titles.

The last day of championship was one of the most competitive days specially for Portugal and France. With difficult weather conditions the day started with the big finals.

The first final was for the Longboard and in a very disputed heat Eliot Dudley (Wal) won the European title leaving the athlete Jonathan Larcher (Fra) in third place and Sam Bleakley (Fra) and in 3rd. The portuguese Bruno Grandela finished in 4th place.

In the Surf Master the portuguese Peter Araújo did not gave any chance to his competitors leaving in 2º place Jamie Owen (Eng) in 3º Chris Griffiths (Wal) and in 4º place Stefano Giulinani (Ita).

Daniel Garci'a (Esp) won the Surf Senior. The Portuguese Pablo Rodrigues was in 2ª position and Didier Piter (Fra) in 3ª position and Clayton Lidster (CHI) in 4ª position.

Feminine Bodyboard took place at 1:00 p.m. In one emotional final Rita Pires got the European Title sending Eunate Aguirre (Esp) to the 2ª position and Eloise Bourroux (Fra) to the 3ª .Claire McGowan (Eng) got the 4ª Position.

The next final, was the only final where the Portuguese had two surfers and the Bodyboard Open started. In a very difficult and competitive battery the Frenchman Cedric Dufaurre won at the last wave the European Title. The Portuguese and Silvano Lourenço and Hugo Pinheiro got respectively the 2nd and 3rd position leaving Alvaro Ortiz (Esp) in 4th.
 
Around 3:00p.m. was time for the Feminine Surf. In a very difficult final  due to the sea conditions, Patrician Lopes (Por) and Marie M. Abral (Fra) controlled the heat since the beginning disputing between themselves the first place. The France won the Feminine Surf Title and Patrician Lopes got the 2nd place leaving to the 3rd place Estivaliz Estremo (Esp) and 4th  Adelina Taylor (Esp).
 
The Surf Open was the bif final of this competition and was decisive for the both France and Portugal.  Miguel Ximenez dominated completely and made the best wave of his battery, assuring the first place winning European Title against excellent adversaries. In 2nd and 3rd  positions we had respectively Simon Marchnd and Joan Duru from France. The 4º place was for Adi Gloska (Isr).

Portugal is the new European Surf Champion leaving France, the great rival in second place and Spain in the third position.
After we had the delivery of the European Titles in a ceremony that started with a Demonstrations of advanced Yoga by the TÁNDAVA group of the Lusa Yoga Association, executed by surfers who practice Yoga, joining for the 1st time in a surf event Yoga and Surf, demonstrating the spectacular’s benefits of this practice.  
During the ceremony, John Huw of the European Surfing Federation, summarized the main objective of this event, affirming that this competition intends to stimulate surf and bodyboard all over the world. John Huw still gave thanks to the Portuguese organization of the event. 

EUROSURF 2005 is the most important European competition for teams and brought around 250 athletes from all Europe to Portugal. The best athletes of Masculine and Feminine Open in the modalities of Surf, Bodyboard and Longboard compose each Team.

This contest takes place of 2 in 2 years and it is a event of ESF - European Surfing Federation and it attributes individual titles and teams titles.

Competing in this Eurosurf  are 12 teams, composed by 21 elements each: Portugal, Spain, France, England, Ireland, Wales, Germany, Italy, Holland, Switzerland, Sweden, Norway, Austria, Israel, Channel Islands, and Scotland.

PORTUGAL CONSAGRA-SE CAMPEÃO EUROPEU DE SURF
MIGUEL XIMENEZ - CAMPEÃO EUROPEU DO SURF OPEN

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 29 October, 2005 : - -  Portugal confirmou as expectativas mais audazes e mostrou mais uma vez, nas grades finais deste Campeonato, a qualidade e força do Surf nacional arrebatando o título europeu para o nosso país e 3 títulos individuais. No Surf Open, Miguel Ximenez sagrou-se Campeão da Europa. Rita Pires no Bodyboard Feminino e Pedro Araújo na categoria de Surf Master arrecadaram também os títulos europeus.

O último dia de campeonato antevia-se bastante competitivo devido a diferença mínima que existia entre Portugal e França. Com umas condições do mar bastante difíceis devido a ressaca da tempestade e o tempo encoberto deu-se início às grandes finais.

Na primeira final do dia de Longboard e num heat bastante disputado Eliot Dudley (Wal) levou a melhor e sagrou-se campeã europeia deixando em segundo lugar o atleta Jonathan Larcher (Fra), em terceiro lugar ficou o atleta Sam Bleakley (Fra) e em quarto lugar o nosso atleta Bruno Grandela.

De seguida começou a final de Surf Master onde o nosso Pedro Araújo não deu hipóteses à concorrência deixando em 2º lugar Jamie Owen (Eng) em 3º Chris Griffiths (Wal) e em 4º lugar Stefano Giulinani (Ita).

Na divisão de Surf Sénior Daniel Garcia (Esp) ganhou o título. O português Paulo Rodrigues ficou na 2ª posição e Didier Piter (Fra) na 3ª posição e Clayton Lidster (CHI) na 4ª posição.

Por volta das 13 horas começou a final de Bodyboard Feminino. Numa final empolgante Rita Pires sagrou-se campeã europeia e remetendo a Eunate Aguirre (Esp) para a 2ª posição e Eloise Bourroux (Fra) para a 3ª e Claire McGowan (Eng) para a 4ª Posição.

De seguida começou a única final com dois portugueses Bodyboard Open. Numa bateria discutida até a ultima onda, o francês Cedric Dufaurre conseguiu sagra-se campeão Europeu. Os portugueses e Silvano Lourenço e Hugo Pinheiro ficaram respectivamente em 2º e 3º lugar deixando Álvaro Ortiz (Esp) na ultima posição. 

Por volta das 15 horas iniciou-se a penúltima final deste campeonato – Surf Feminino. Numa final bastante difícil devido as condições do mar, Patrícia Lopes e Marie M. Abral (Fra) controlaram o heat desde o início disputando entre si o primeiro lugar, disputa essa que viria ser ganha pela francesa que assim se sagrou campeã Europeia Surf Feminino e Patrícia Lopes ficaria em 2º lugar com uma grande margem sobre o 3ª, Estivaliz Estremo (Esp) e a 4ª Adelina Taylor (Esp).
 
O Surf Open foi a final do nosso contentamento e era decisiva para as aspirações ao titulo da equipa portuguesa.  Assim numa final bastante emotiva a mais jovem promessa da nossa equipa Miguel Ximenez dominou por completo esta final fazendo a melhor onda da bateria. Assegurando assim o primeiro lugar e sagrando-se campeão Europeu contra adversários de peso. Na 2ª e 3ª posições ficaram respectivamente Simon Marchnd e Joan Duru de França. Em 4º lugar ficou Adi Gloska (Isr)

Assim no final da competição Portugal sagrou-se campeão Europeu de Surf deixando a França a nossa grande rival na segunda posição e a espanha, actual detentora do titulo na terceira posição
Seguiu-se a entrega de prémios deste EuroSurf 2005 com muito publico e todas as equipas desta competição presentes o que deu um colorido diferente a cerimonia.

A cerimónia começou com uma demonstração de Yoga Avançado Individual pelo Grupo TÁNDAVA da Associação Lusa de Yoga, executadas por surfistas praticantes de Yoga, demonstrando os espectaculares benefícios desta prática à qual se seguiu a entrega de prémios. Durante cerimónia, John Huw da European Surfing Federation, resumiu bastante bem o objectivo deste evento, ao afirmar que esta competição pretende incentivar o surf e bodyboard europeu. John Huw deu ainda os parabens a organização portuguesa pelo evento. 

O CAMPEONATO DA EUROPA DE SURF- EUROSURF 2005, foi uma organização do Centro Internacional de Surf e da Natural Factor com a colaboração do Centro de Yoga da Costa de Caparica – especializado em Yoga para Surfistas.

Esta prova realiza-se de 2 em 2 anos sobre a égide da ESF - European Surfing Federation e da Federação Portuguesa de Surf e atribui títulos individuais e por selecções.

EM – Big Finals – Deutschland auf Platz sechs und Portugal on fire

Das beste Ergebnis, was der DWV mit einer Mannschaft seit der Teilnahme an internationalen Wettkämpfen je eingefahren hat ist dieses Jahr gelungen. Platz sechs in der Teamwertung ist dem deutschen Surfteam gelungen. Der Erfolgssprung ist in diesem Jahr vor allem als großer Sprung nach vorne zu werten, da Marlon Lipke, der bisher immer ein Drittel der Teampunkte eingefahren hat, nicht dabei war.

Bis aufs Siegertreppchen hat es jedoch keiner des DWV Teams geschafft. Joana Schenker, die heute Morgen im Bodyboard- Hoffnungsrundenfinale gegen angetreten ist, ist leider auf dem dritten Platz ausgeschieden und ist damit in der Gesamtwertung auf einem dennoch beachtlichen fünften Platz.

Die Bedingungen am heutigen Finaletag gehören zu den Tagen, an denen kein Surfer mehr zum Spaß surfen geht. Vier Beaufort Sideshore und 1,5m Wellen machten es sehr schwierig, sich zu platzieren und powervolle Wellenschultern zu erwischen. Joana musste lange auf ihre erste Welle warten, auf der sie 4,5 Punkte einfahren konnte. Leider kam sie nicht mehr schnell genug ins Line up, um eine zweite Welle zu fahren. 

Die anschließenden sieben Big Finals waren trotz des ungemütlichen Wetters sehr spannend. Immer wieder gab es heiße „Kopf an Kopf Rennen“. Den Auftakt bildeten die Longboarder. Der Franzose Jonathan Larcher stieg in den ersten Minuten mit einer 7,5 Punkte Welle ins Rennen ein, konnte aber keine zweite Welle mit hohen Punkten fahren. Larcher wurde am Ende des Laufes von dem Waliser Eliot Dudley abgehängt.

In der Masterclass (ab 35 J) zeigte Pedro Araujo (41J), dass man noch radikale Snaps wie die Youngsters fahren kann und holte sich damit den EM Titel. Bei den Senioren gab es ein spannendes Duell zwischen dem Portugiesen, Paulo Rodrigues und dem Spanier Daniel Garcia. Immer wieder wechselten sich die beiden auf dem ersten Platz ab. Als sie portugiesische Mannschaft gerade jubelnd am Strand stand, um ihren Champ abzuholen, nahm der Spanier Garcia in der letzten Sekunde noch seines Siegeswelle.

Dafür durften die Portugiesen im anschließenden Frauenbodyboardlauf mit Rita Pires eine weitere Europameisterin aus dem Wasser holen. Pires fuhr mit Absand die besten und größten Wellen, verlor bei ihren radikalen Spins nicht an Geschwindigkeit und konnte ihre Wellen bis zum Strand ausfahren.

Zwei weitere EM Titel gingen in den darauf folgenden Finalläufen (Bodyboard Männer und Shortboard Frauen) an die französische Mannschaft. Cedric Dufau und Marie Pierre Abgrall ließen ihre Gegner ganz deutlich hinter sich. Der letzte und am höchsten bewertet Titel, der Sieger der Openclass wurde heiß umkämpft. Im Finale angetreten sind Adi Gluska (Israel), Joan Duru (Frankreich), Simon Marchand (Frankreich) und Miguel Ximenez (Portugal). Die vier hatten es nicht leicht, mehrer powervolle Manöver in einer Welle zu zeigen. Wie sie häufig am heutigen Tag wurde die Siegeswelle in den letzten Sekunden gefahren. Miguel Ximenez gelang es kurz vor Abtuten eine große und lange Welle anzustarten und zeigte ein radikalen Turn nach dem anderen, immer ganz dicht am Brechungsrand der Welle.

Gefeiert wurden die Triumphe mit viel Jubel bei der Siegerehrung. Vor allem das portugiesische Team war nicht mehr zu bremsen, als es die Platzierung der Teams verkündet wurde mit, „Portugal, first place“.

In zwei Jahren werden sich die Teams voraussichtlich in Jersey wieder sehen und das DWV Team hat heute schon nach dem Siegertreppchen geschielt.
