LAY DAY CALLED FOR NOVA SCHIN FESTIVAL DAY ONE

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 31 October, 2005 : - - With a small swell running and predicted unfavourable winds forecast to hit around lunch time, organisers of the Nova Schin Festival presented by Billabong have called a lay day on the first day of the competition window which extends from today, Monday 31 October till Wednesday 9 November.

Long range forecasts for the event, the 10th on the Foster’s ASP Men’s World Tour, indicate that a solid swell will begin to arrive later today and by the end of the week surfers can expect to paddle out in excellent conditions.

Former ASP tourer now Nova Schin Festival event licensee, Flavio Padaratz was confident that the event would be staged in quality waves with the best opportunity appearing to be on Thursday and Friday.

“We’re expecting strong south winds today, which are unfavourable, but the swell is going to rise up quickly this afternoon,” said Padaratz. “We might have waves tomorrow and will look at moving the event to take advantage of them and will aim to complete round one. There’s an east swell predicted for Thursday and Friday, which is perfect for the home base of Joaquina. We could be looking at five to six feet waves over the next couple of days but it will drop then come back up again from the east.”

The draw for the event has changed somewhat again with a further withdrawal from Shea Lopez. His replacement will be Jihad Khodr (BRA). For the full draw head to www.aspworldtour.com

A press conference will also be held today at 10am local time and will have both Kelly Slater (USA) and Andy Irons (HAW) present.

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 31 October, 2005 : - -  A abertura do Nova Schin Surf Festival 2005 foi adiada nesta segunda-feira devido às fracas condições do mar em Florianópolis (SC). As ondas estão pequenas, com cerca de meio metro, e formação prejudicada pelo vento sul.  A previsão é a de que a ondulação de Sul ganhe força nesta terça-feira.  

Além da Joaquina, onde está a estrutura principal da prova, as principais opções para a realização da competição são a praia da Vila e a praia do Rosa, localizadas em Imbituba.

A janela de espera pelas melhores ondas tem prazo até o dia 11 de novembro para acontecer nas melhores ondas do litoral de Santa Catarina, com transmissão ao vivo no Portal Terra.
